LOGAN HOWLETT ✦ RAKSHA KELLER ✦ SHAMARA ANDOR
BEACH PATROL DURING THE ARENA MISSION PG COMPLETE |
Spending days patrolling the beach with no sign of trouble from COS was starting to wear on Logan. He wasn’t the most patient man, but on top of it all he was worried about the people stuck in the Arena. He kept the comms closed so he wouldn’t be distracted by watching the feed, but Laura kept him updated: a few people had died in the Arena only to show up alive in medical in Atlantis. Well, that was something, and at least Alicia was still going strong. For Laura’s sake he wanted Alicia to survive until the end. Or at least long enough so he could find the damn agents that did this and run them through with his claws. The wind had been picking up steadily along the shore, and with the rising tide the waves crashed loudly against the beach. Logan paused and looked out at the waters. “Be careful out there,” he said into the comms to his team. “Water’s looking rough.” Unlike many cats, panthers were quite good swimmers, but they preferred rivers not oceans. The salt spray offended the panther's nose, and the lapping waves made her ears twitch uneasily. She wanted to shy away from the beach, but her sense of smell was best in this form, and so Keller exerted the extra effort against her feline instincts. Her comms unit was rigged to a collar-like necklace in such a way that it would stay with her when she shifted from one form to another. At her team leader's warning, she sidled away from the crashing waves, but it was a little too late. She yowled protest into the comms as the surf pulled her paws from under her. Shamara hadn’t been saying much since her team had been assigned this position. She had been trying to sense anyone or anything that had to do with the Arena or the people stuck in it, but nothing was coming to her. The Force wasn’t the problem, it was there and it was flowing and working as usual. It was simply their complete absence. She watched Keller’s panther form, taking a break from concentrating, only to witness her lose the ground from under her feet by the harsh waves. “Logan! Keller’s caught in the surf!” She warned, running towards her as she spoke. Logan growled under his breath and sprinted toward the panther. “Hang on, kid! I’m coming!” He was swift on the beach, powerful legs digging into the sand and kicking it up as he ran. The Wolverine might not have been the best swimmer, but he could hold his own against the surf so long as his feet had ground beneath them. It was one of the advantages of having an adamantium skeleton. The waves crashed against his body, and threatened to knock him over with their force. Logan growled against it, and pushed through the harsh water. He could see Keller in the distance getting pulled out into the open water, but still close enough that he could reach her in one leap. He pushed harder against the waves, closing the distance with the panther. “Shamara, can you use the Force to pull her closer,” he asked into the comms, just in case he couldn’t reach her fast enough. Keller continued to struggle against the waves, but there was nothing to stand on. Between the sound of the surf and her own howls, she could hear her teammates' voices, but not clearly enough to understand the worlds or tell how close they were. She was close to full blown panic. “I can try!” Said Shamara, running closer to where Keller was trapped. She focused, closing her eyes, and held out her hands. Force pull wasn’t her strong suit at all, but she had to try. She had to. After a while she realized she wasn’t making enough progress, so Shamara decided to ask for help. “Logan! I can’t exercise enough force! And she’s panicking, I can feel it!” She then turned her attention to Keller. “It’s okay,” she tried to communicate. “We’ll get you out, you’ll be okay, hold on.” The touch of another mind was something familiar, at least. Telepathy was not one of Keller's abilities, but it was one of Nissa's and of course, Galen. In addition to his affinity for all animals, he could hear her when she called through their soulmate bond - something akin but different to the tie that had grown between Keller and Bella here in Atlantis. Shamara's message eased Keller's anxiety to a degree. It was still a struggle to hold onto herself as the waves swept her away, but she could wait for Logan to reach her. Thank goodness adamantium weighed him down enough so that the waves had little effect on him. He pushed against them, spitting out the salty water whenever it got into his mouth. He couldn’t float worth shit, and more than likely the water would be nearly over his head by the time he reached Keller, but he wasn’t going to let that stop him. “Hold on!” he yelled to woman in panther form. When he finally reached her the waves were crashing over his head. Logan was breathing more water than air, but he pressed on. His hand reached out toward the dark figure ahead of him, and he grabbed onto whatever he could. He felt wet fur against his fingertips, and he pressed forward so he could wrap an arm around the torso of the beast. Holding his breath he began to pull her toward the shore. The waves were still crashing against him, but his hold on Keller was firm. He wasn’t going to lose her. |
