Erin really liked all of Poe’s friends, they all tended to be good-hearted and kind people and Erin liked that. She and Rey had planned to meet up for Taco Tuesday. The weather was dreadful but that didn’t stop them from finding a table and ordering their meal.
“How are things going with the bloke you’ve been seeing?” Erin asked right before taking a bite of her taco.
Rey blushed, she couldn’t help it. She wasn’t used to those types of questions but she couldn’t help but smile. “Things are good, he’s a very nice person. He’s had a hard life but I can relate to parts of it.” Not the addictions he’d faced but feeling alone, not feeling part of your family, that she could understand. “We have a good time together. He’s showing me a lot of things that I hadn’t seen before. Things about Earth, music, books, it’s fascinating really.”
“That’s really good,” she smiled, Erin liked to hear that her friends were happy and she felt like Charlie seemed like a good guy, at least that was the impression she got. “It’s fascinating all the different kinds of that are available here, from the many different earths, and other places.” She’d learned a lot from Poe about their world and the differences but she still felt like there was so much more to learn. “So, are things getting serious with you two?”
“It hasn’t been that long really but we did decide to be exclusive so that’s a big step I guess,” she gave a little laugh. “I know so little about dating really. I mean there was Luke but that was so complicated with him being my teacher and the fact that I knew things about his future that I couldn’t tell him. I don’t even really know how to describe it. We cared for each other but there was always the sense that we were both holding back. Charlie is different. Neither of us knew the other, we’ve been learning as we go and I like that. I don’t feel like I have to hide things from him. Dating someone who can literally read your mind isn’t easy,” she shook her head. “Not that Luke would ever do that without me knowing, that’s against so many Jedi rules but sometimes I was afraid that things would slip through without my being aware of it.”
Erin wasn’t exactly a dating expert herself, she didn’t date a lot. “That’s good that you are taking the steps,” she smiled softly. Erin didn’t really know Luke and didn’t comment on it other than to give a small smile. “I can imagine it being strange knowing someone has the capability to do it around her.” She offered though.
“I can do it too which makes it even stranger,” she admitted. “But I’m glad that I got to know him this way, even if I do go home one day, I won’t remember any of it but perhaps somewhere there will be a memory that will help me understand him better.” Why he was so sad and lonely was a question she wondered about. “But Charlie is very good to me, I like his friends too and it’s nice to have people to do things with.”
“It’s important to like your partners' mate, my best mate from home would warn if you don’t get along with his mates you might want to revaluate the relationship.” Erin really did miss Delilah and sometimes wondered what her friend would think of what Erin was up to these days.
“That’s very true. Not that I have much experience with that but I can see that it would be uncomfortable if you didn’t like them. It’s funny that I hadn’t known Poe all that long at home before we came here so we’ve really just gotten closer since then. But he’s a good friend, I wouldn’t trade him for anything. As long as he lets me visit BB8 now and then.” She grinned. The truth was that she had met the little droid before she’d met Finn or Poe but he was just as much a friend to her as they were.
Erin smiled, it was interesting how people managed to grow closer to each other in a different land, or drift apart. Erin found the whole experiment interesting. “BB8 is wonderful,” she agreed. Before she’d started actually dating Poe, Erin had spent a lot of time with BB8 as he was also a roommate
“He really is. I found him actually on Jakku and was trying to get him back. I didn’t know who he belonged to exactly, just the Resistance but getting back to Poe was quite the adventure.” Parts of which still disturbed her to think about but she tried to push those aside and concentrate on the good ones. “Poe comes from further in the future than I do, not a lot but a good bit. I was happy to hear that my friend, Finn, was going to be okay. He wasn’t in very good shape when I left him.”
“Poe’s told me a bit about it,” Erin smiled softly. “I imagine anywhere someone is and they find BB8 to count as a good day.” Erin was pretty aware of everything that had been happening in Poe’s world, they’d spent a lot of time together talking.
“That’s true. He’s almost human, sometimes I forget that he isn’t,” she laughed. “Poe can carry on an entire conversation with him. I can get parts of it but not as much as him. It’s really cute but I don’t have to tell you that.” Rey smiled. She liked Erin and knew that Poe liked her too and that was what was important. He deserved to have some happiness and with the war back home, she believed that she grab whatever they could while they were here.
“I’ve heard some of those conversations,” it had surprised her when she’d first met them but Erin got used to it. Just at that moment, their tacos were delivered. “Let’s dig in!”
