“And there was this one time during a training session-” Taisia found herself randomly telling someone, luckily they’d shut her up and told her to order, she managed to order three cinnamon rolls and a really big iced chai tea. She waited tapping her fingers for her order to be ready and when it finally was she grabbed her things and headed towards one of the few free tables in the place.
She was diving into the second roll when Steve Rogers asked to join her, she nodded with a full mouth of cinnamon roll, finally when they sat down and she had mostly finished chewing she opened her mouth.
“I have to tell you about this time during a training session that I don’t know what I happened during the run but I started to get the hiccups and in the middle of it I totally stumbled and did the roll forward thing and took out like half the class.”
Steve walked into the coffee shop like he did most days, smiling at the baristas who already knew his order by heart. He got his black coffee and thought of drinking it on the way back to the base when he caught a glimpse of Taisia and decided to join her. Tai had become a good friend over the last year.
He tried to hold his laugh but it was a little difficult when he pictured Taisia making half of the class falling down on the ground because she got the hiccups. “Must have been some hiccups you got,” he chuckled.
Taisia nodded. “I don’t do hiccups lightly,” she informed him as if that made everything better. Taisia was pretty sure she’d never actually told anyone that story and usually worked hard to forget it.
“It was almost as bad as when I was climbing a tree here in Atlantis I guess 2 years ago and slipped and landed on top of someone, that didn’t go over very well either, it wasn’t the best way to make a good first impression,” again, something she didn’t normally bring up.
“I’m sure you don’t,” he chuckled.
He was a little surprised by Tai’s stories, definitely something most people wouldn’t share with everyone. But Tai had become a very good friend over the time he’d been in Atlantis so maybe this was just her feeling more comfortable around him.
“Why were you climbing the tree in the first place?”
“Because I apparently had the urge to be a monkey, least I didn’t turn into one,” she shrugged taking a large bite almost in an attempt to get herself to stop telling him stories. Before she’d finished chewing she started up again.
“I did rip a pair of training pants once during a rather epic leap and failed kick, I almost kicked this guy I think I was in love with, but that was complicated at the time,” she stuffed her face again with food.
Okay, maybe there was something wrong with her. There was something a little off with her. Steve couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but this didn’t feel like normal Tai. “Are you feeling okay, Tai? Not that I don’t appreciate you being this open with me, but I think it’s the first time since we’ve known each other you’re being so... sharing.” He was starting to worry. Not a lot, but enough to wonder if she was feeling alright.
“Oh, I feel fine, don’t worry I’m not going to projectile throw up or anything, did do that once too, which really sucked because it wasted so much good food, and it went all over these Moroi girls and they did not like it at all,” she could feel her cheeks starting to get a little bit warmer. “I think I just have to share, you know Atlantis style share.” started
As much as he wanted to keep a straight face, the stories and the way she told them made him laugh. She was funny and so were the very embarrassing stories she was telling him. “Well, better me than some random person, I guess,” he chuckled. “I’ll still want to check on you tomorrow just to make sure you’re alright.”
“Honestly Rogers, I’m all good, a lot better than when I tried to ask this bloke a question about something completely innocent and he thought I was asking for his number and he got really excited, it didn’t end well, and I think I broke his nose.” She nodded, that wasn’t at least as embarrassing as some of the others.
It was a good thing he wasn’t drinking his coffee or he would’ve choked on it. “You have a very interesting life, Tai.”
“I think I’m going to go before I tell you about the time--” she shoved food in her mouth but still seemed to be trying to talk, it was all impossible to understand but she stood up all the same and waved awkwardly as she decided she might want to take the day off, the last thing she needed was to bombard Jemma and Sara with weird stories.
Steve laughed and nodded. “I’ll check on you tomorrow, Tai,” he called after her before she left. He chuckled and shook his head, taking his coffee and drinking some of it. Well, that was an interesting start of the day.
