So far things were going okay, it wasn’t the smoothest mission she’d ever been on and it had its own set of difficulties. She’d sent Anissa, Clarice, & Damon to place the emerald and was paroling with Jaina. They were just rounding a corner when Rose stopped abruptly and grabbed the sleeve of Jaina pulling them backwards as one of the teams searching came up grumbling about how they really weren’t finding anything to help them yet.
Kriff. Jaina had just barely sensed the approaching team as Rose grabbed her sleeve and her hand flew instinctively to her lightsaber before she realized who it was. Not having been in Atlantis long pit her at some disadvantage and she glanced at Rose to take her cues from the Lieutenant Commander. Jaina might have gotten used to leading, but she knew how to take orders.
Putting a hand to her mouth to indicate they needed to be quiet she entered a little deeper into the cave, the only problem was that it appeared one of the searching groups saw the cave and decided to try and check it out. Moving carefully, she found a way for them to hide, but they had to stand very still.
Nodding, Jaina used to Force to try and help silence and maybe even cloak their presence. Keeping still would still be important, but if she could give them an added edge, she would.
As the footsteps went away and they could break, Rose gave a worried look of how close that had been, just at that moment the offshoot of the cave they were in seemed to magically close.
“Kriff,” Jaina swore aloud this time but was careful to keep her tone low. They didn’t have time for this. She reached out with the Force again, but she couldn’t budge the newly closed off opening.
Rose stepped forward feeling closing, as she did she frowned. Her first instinct was to look for a trigger, but with the magic of Atlantis, she knew it could be a little bit more complicated than that. “Can you feel any kind of trigger?” Rose spoke very softly looking over at Jaina, while Rose didn’t completely get the force she knew they could feel things differently.
Jaina closed her eyes and focused, trying again, before shaking her head. “I can feel it, but I can’t move it,” she answered, her voice barely a whisper. Whatever was locking them in here was some kind of magic that was resistant to the Force.
“Can you feel what direction it is in?” Rose asked at a whisper herself. It might just be simply getting to the damn thing but she wasn’t sure and at least a general idea of where might help them out more.
Closing her eyes and concentrating again, Jaina nodded and motioned in the direction she’d felt something from. It seemed better not to speak anymore than they had to. She couldn’t be sure that what she’d felt was the trap, but she still thought it was worth pursuing. They couldn’t exactly just sit here and wait.
Rose waited without watching her carefully, nodding when she saw the direction she pointed, moving carefully, Rose had to stand up on a rock to try and reach and feel around, as she felt she eventually felt what she thought was a switch. She tilted her head with a shrug as if to say here goes nothing and flipped it. The wall felt like it started to rumble but the barrier very slowly started to open, Rose slipped her finger off the trigger and it went down quickly. “Fuck-” she grumbled before putting her hand back on the trigger and signalling she’d get it all the way open and they’d hve to move fast.
Jaina nodded - she could use the Force to help herself move quickly, but she also wondered if she could use it to help keep the barrier open longer. “I’ll try to hold it open longer as we run out,” she whispered, getting ready to run through as soon as the barrier lifted high enough.
Rose nodded, she didn’t like this thing but there wasn’t much she could do about it. Once it was clearly fully open she nodded to Jaina and took a deep breath letting going of the switch and jumping to the grown practically throwing her body forward as she had to drop to roll to hopefully make it through.
Jaina started to move as soon as the barrier was high enough. Sliding under it might not have been her best move and she could feel the floor of the cave scraping her legs, but she ignored the pain, focusing on the objective at hand. Even as she was sliding through the opening – and being so small had its advantages here – Jaina reached out with the Force to try and hold the thing up. It would have been easier with Jacen here or even one of the other Jedi, but she managed to keep it up just long enough for Rose to clear it. The barrier slammed back into place and Jaina sat there for a moment, forcing her breathing to steady as she looked at Rose to make sure she was alright.
Jumping to her fit a moment after the barrier slammed she looked at it ignoring the scraps and cuts she got from it, she was lucky she managed to get through without having a leg chopped off. “Thanks,” she whispered nodding her head towards the exit indicating they should go while they could. Jaina looked to be a little winded but okay which was a mild miracle they both weren’t seriously injured.
