Logan sniffed the unusual air of Wonderland. It was filled with scents that he had never encountered anywhere else, but that was always the case with these missions he was sent on. New sights, scents, and everything under the sun. He used to think that being with the X-Men exposed him to everything he could think of, but he was wrong. He and Keller were in charge of sniffing out these kittens they were supposed to look for, but so far they hadn’t come up with anything. It was frustrating considering they had been there for at least a day, or something. Time moved differently here, at least that’s how it felt. Logan looked around, and let out a sigh when he looked over at Paul. “Seriously, bub,” he said. “This ain’t really the time to get drug samples, is it?” “For one,” Paul huffed, rolling his eyes at the man who was sniffing the air and really couldn’t lecture him about weird actions in possibly the second weirdest place Paul had been in, “They’re not drugs. Just because they’re mushrooms, it doesn’t mean they have hallucinogenic properties. Two, they might be vital to understanding this world - and three, examining the terrain and plants might actually provide indications of the incredibly tiny kittens we’re looking for,” he huffed, pocketing the small bags he’d taken samples into using a pocket knife. “Besides, I’m not the one holding us up here,” Paul raised an eyebrow, glancing over the top of the hedge again to where they’d just seen the Queen of Hearts pass by. “I don’t particularly want to lose my head, but- go ahead, be my guest.” “Can’t lose my head, bub,” Logan said with a smirk. “Not that people haven’t tried.” He chuckled a bit and continued to smell for the kittens. At least sniffing for traces of their mark was a lot more productive than analyzing the terrain. But whatever, to each their own. Logan wouldn’t leave Paul behind if it came to it, but he also didn’t want to be held up by the other man He did keep watch for the Queen though, and her entourage of heart cards that followed her. The last thing they needed was trouble in this fucked up place. Logan looked over at Keller. “Sniff out anything yet?” Keller was about to say 'no' when something caught her attention. The scents of Wonderland were pungent and could be confusing, but there was something. "Maybe," she said, eyes narrowed. There was something animal and something not. Seeking the source of the faint scent, she brushed aside some flowers and found what looked like tiny blue paw prints. "These are definitely kitten's," she said, straightening up. "It looks like they found some paint." “If I remember this setting correctly they can very well be hallucinogenic. Or at least magical!” Shamara pointed out, smiling at Paul. She didn’t mind him taking samples; he was a scientist, after all, it was probably in his nature. “Anything interesting from a cursory glance?” Shamara had been trying her best to mask their presence from anyone who got too close but the Force was “wonky” at best here, and finding the kittens was definitely more important. She looked over at Keller when Logan asked for her input, chin raising as she said she’d found something. Shamara followed her teammate to the flowers. “Paint? Oh, huh. Okay maybe we can follow the prints, if not that then definitely the scent of paint right?” A disturbance not far from them snapped Shamara out of the conversation. “There’s someone in distress nearby. Those bushes there!” She pointed. A flat, flailing surface seemed to be hiding (badly) among the bushes. Logan examined the paint. Tiny pawprints certainly visible all over the ground. It seemed as if they had gotten into it and were now playing with it. Kids, he said to himself as he knelt to press two fingers into the still-wet color. He lifted it to his nose. “Yep, it’s gotta be them. Don’t smell like anything else ‘round here.” He rose to his full height, and would have followed the prints were it not for Shamara pointing toward some bushes in the distance. Logan saw the card, a Three of Hearts, and approached it quickly. He grabbed at the hand, and yanked it out from amongst the leaves. “What were you doing in there, bub?” |
