“I guess I should be hospitable and ask if you want something to drink?” Lauren said as she walked into the kitchen with Brent a few steps behind her. He’d shown up a little bit early before the St. Paddy’s day party. “I think everyone else is out right now,” she added. She wasn’t totally sure about that, but the house did seem kind of quiet.
“So, how crazy do you think tonight is going to get?”
“A water would be great,” Brent admitted as he leaned casually against a counter. So would a beer, but they were going to a part and he didn’t see the need to “pregame.” “Maybe some tea,” he added as an afterthought.
“Knowing Atlantis, it’s going to be memorable,” he said about the party. Crazy was a relative term around here, so that was probably an understatement.
Lauren nodded, as she grabbed the kettle putting some water in it and getting it set. She had to get on her toes to reach the tea she knew he liked.
“Should we bet on if people turn green during the night?” She asked getting everything else needed for tea out.
Brent watched her reach for the tin of tea, ready to help if she needed it before nodded at the question she asked him. “I think we can count on that much, at least,” he said. He was still fairly new to Atlantis, but he’d been here long enough to know the parties tended to have a lot of crazy things happening.
“So, that’s a yes to a bet?” Lauren wanted to confirm, she was positive something weird would happen, the question was what exactly.
Brent smirked at her. “That depends on what I’m going to get when I win?” he quipped. Betting against people turning green wasn’t a bet he was going to take, but if she wanted to wager on specifics, he was game for it. Especially for a particularly alluring prize.
“Who said you were going to win? Or are you just that worried about suffering a loss of a bet?” She turned as the water started to boil. Setting up the tea she looked away long enough to make sure not to miss the mugs. Handing him his mug she narrowed her eyes.
Brent couldn’t help a little chuckle at the narrowed eyes and the obvious challenge. “Maybe I just like to know what the stakes are,” he suggested, moving a little bit closer to her to take the mug from her hands - or, possibly just to have an excuse to stand closer.
Lauren thought for a moment. “Could be drinks on either of us, could be dinner, could be the other has to do one crazy thing the other asks… Something fun,” she paused. “Something along that vein of thought.” She offered.
“Sounds like that means we’ll both win either way,” he commented, although he grinned a little more at the last suggestion. “Why not be really crazy and choose all three as the prize?”
“All three,” Lauren tilted her head thinking. “Okay, all three it is.” She had a strong feeling that tonight would be a lot of fun.
