Where:The stables
What:Talking about Pegasus riding and magic
Rating:G
Lavender had been in Atlantis for a while now and she rarely missed an opportunity for a Pegasus riding lesson. She was well passed beginner at this point but considering it had been quite cold out, she decided not to go riding instead she just came to visit. “Hello, darling.” Lavender said kindly as she reached out her hand to show the creature a treat that she had brought him. Kaylee had never heard of a pegasus and she was curious to see one up close. Her work schedule had prevented her from taking a lesson before but today she had time off she decided to go the stables and see what the animals looked like. She hadn’t expected to find anyone else there but that was okay, kaylee never met a stranger and she walked over to the other young woman who was talking to one of the animals. “Hey,” she said with a smile. “Gosh they’re really pretty. I’d never heard of one before I came here. Is this one yours?” Lavender turned her head and smiled. “Oh no. Well I ride him often but he doesn’t belong to me or anything like that.” Lavender certainly had enough affection for the Pegasus but she wouldn’t want to claim any kind of ownership. “No? There are winged horses in my world but they’re not Pegasus. I know for a lot of people they’re just creatures of myths. But they’re amazing, have you been to one of the flying lessons yet?” She asked her. “We don’t have anything that flies ‘cept birds and spaceships,” Kaylee said. “I just got here when a bunch of people showed up around Christmas and the weather’s been bad so I haven’t got to try it yet. I want to though.” Kaylee wasn’t afraid of much and she’d try just about anything and what could be more fun than riding on a flying horse. She wished River was here, the girl would be completely enchanted with the flying horses. That certainly peaked Lavender’s interest. Not as if to say that she was disinterested before, but talking about spaceships wasn’t something she got to do very often. Not counting the movies that Cisco has shown her. “Spaceships, really?” She grinned. “So you’ve been in space and different planets?” “I’m Lavender, by the way.” She reached out her hand in a friendly manner. “I’m from England, but I’ve been here for a while now. So long I suppose it’s my home away from home.” “I’m Kaylee,” she said and shook Lavender’s hand. “Yeah, I’m from space. About five hundred years in Earth’s future. Earth got used up, they hadta make other planets, the Chinese kinda took over. China and English are what ever’body speaks back home.” She suddenly remembered something. “Do you know Shepherd Book? I think he’s been here a while. He’s from where I’m from too.” “Oh wow.” Lavender certainly hoped that wasn’t a future for her back home. She wondered if they had any magical folk. It’d be likely they’d still be in hiding, a world kept separate like the ones from her world. Or they could have no magical folk at all, some have said so though she wondered if they only thought that because they were keeping themselves secret. “Well it’s nice to meet you, Kaylee.” She thought about the name for a moment and shook her head. “His name sounds familiar but no, I don’t think I ever properly met him.” She smiled. “I know muggles have made it to space but nothing like what you’re describing. We can’t go to different planets. We can send satellites to send back images, but that’s about it and it takes years to reach a planet just our own solar system.” She blinked for a second then quickly added. “Muggles meaning non-magical people. I’m a witch.” She said. “Really? A witch? Never met a witch before. I didn’t even know they was real.” Since she’d been in Atlantis, she’d seen some amazing things so it didn’t surprise her that witches and magic was real. “Are you born knowin’ magic or can you learn to do it?” “A lot of people don’t. In my world non-magical folk don’t know we exist either. We live in secret.” She smiled. “Well we’re born with the ability to do magic, yes but we typically don’t learn spells and use wands until we start school. Which is about 11 or so years old. Though there are other countries where they don’t use wands, it’s just a popular tool as a way to control and channel it. She took hers out for Kaylee to see. “Do you want me to show you something?” It all sounded incredible to Kaylee. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be able to do magic. It would make things a lot easier, she thought. Especially when it came to doing chores and things. “Oh yeah, I’d love to see some magie,” she said with a huge smile. Lavender smiled as she waved her wand. The magic was fairly simpler, a few sparks there, making objects move, grow and shrink. As much as she enjoyed meeting new people and being interested in their own abilities, it was nice from time to time for Lavender to show off a bit with her own magic. “Our school is seven years. Though I’ve always wondered why there really isn’t such a thing as a wizarding college. Typically, depending on your job, you’ll get your education specific for that job there.” Kaylee couldn’t stop oohing and awwing. It was the most amazing thing she’d ever seen and she couldn’t imagine what it must be like to have abilities like that. “That’s really cool. I can’t do anything but fix engines,” she said with a laugh. “So you’re born being able to do magie?” “That’s not bad!” Lavender replied. “I wouldn’t know what to do with an engine. I’m not entirely sure what an engine is. I know my fiance has spoken about it but I get a bit lost with muggle things. Muggle meaning non-magic folk, we have our own world. They don’t know we exist and so we don’t have a lot of muggle things like cars.” “Really? We don’t have cars like the cars I’ve seen around here, they’re more like flying cars sorta. I can fix those too but I’m better with ships.” She glanced up at the horse and then at her watch. “I guess I needta get back to work. I’ll come back another time and take a lession. I don’t wanna misss that.” |
