EARLY FEBRUARY
JAMES 'LOGAN' HOWLETT ✦ VALKYRIE ✦ ERIN TROY
VALKYRIE'S TROUBLE MAKES LOGAN AND ERIN SWITCH BODIES PG COMPLETE |
“I don’t see what I can possibly do about this.” Valkyrie grumbled, arms crossed in front of her chest. Was it weird that people around her were switching bodies with each other? Sure. Was it her fault? No, because intention was about ninety percent of fault as far as she saw it, and she hadn’t even known it was happening! “Maybe it’s not even anything to do with me.” “Maybe not,” Logan said. He liked Val. Liked that she could beat the crap out of him while being sexy at the same time, so when she asked him to meet up with her because something was “off” as she put it, he couldn’t turn her down. Besides, a man’s gotta eat, so he might as well eat with her. “But you said that you noticed people changing around you. We gotta start somewhere, right?” “Mmmhmm. Or - hear me out - Atlantis pulls weird shit all the time. I once woke up as a bear. And the bear was shorter than I am. I wasn’t aware those even existed.” She produced a flask out of a belt pouch and drank from it. “Thor was an anteater once, I also didn’t know those existed before that day. The bear was easier on the eyes. My point being, just because I noticed doesn’t mean I did it.” “Never said you did it. But maybe some weird Atlantis shit has decided you’d be a good witness for whatever is going on. Or maybe you got something following you.” Logan leaned over the table a bit and sniffed the air. He didn’t smell anything suspect other than the scent of alcohol (that was somewhat comforting to an old boozehound like him), and food. The only thing that could have made it better was pairing it with a cigar, which reminded him that he needed to replenish his supply sometime tomorrow.. “I don’t know what to tell you, but it sounds right up the alley of what I’ve been helping the APD investigate. I’ll make sure to keep my ears for any clues.” He picked up a french fry and popped it into his mouth. Valkyrie narrowed her eyes, making them dart from side to side as she processed the idea that something was following her. It wasn't that hard to believe in Atlantis. She craned her neck back when Logan seemed to be smelling her. “Did you just… sniff me out? What the fuck are you doing you weirdo?” She rolled her eyes again. After last time she had precious little patience for whatever kind of crap Atlantis wanted to pull with her. For some place that needed people to fight its war it sure liked to push them away with annoyance. “For fuck’s sake. Right; I didn't drink or eat anything I don't do normally and I barely talk to acquaintances let alone strangers. What else?” “I was sniffing the air around you,” he defended. But did he really need to? Logan had been called worse things than weirdo in his life, but it mattered here. People knew of him, but they didn’t really know him the way the X-Men did back home. “You got a strong scent. I don’t need to focus so much on it.” “Who the fuck actually knows what’s going on. Like I said it could be the fucking Troubles that we’re investigation. Some Duke guy’s got a book at the precinct. Maybe it’s in there.” He shrugged, and this time grabbed a hold of his burger and took a big bite. “It could be worse,” he said. “Could be you that’s switching bodies with folks.” “No fucking thank you. Wouldn’t mind switching minds though…” Valkyrie looked off and sighed. She had been making little comments like these for days now, as if daring someone to worry and it was infuriating. She never noticed until after making them. And, as she was doing now, the sheer embarrassment made her drink even more. “What did you mean I have a strong scent? I wash!” Logan noticed the comment, but kept his mouth shut. Some people preferred to keep their secrets, and Logan respected that. Talking deep thoughts wasn’t his strong suit, anyway. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder what it was that she was trying to get away from. He laughed at her. “Never said you stank, just said I could pick you out of a crowd without effort.” Narrowing her eyes, Valkyrie stared at Logan for a moment, then smirked slowly but thoroughly as if trying to imitate The Grinch cartoon or Tim Curry despite knowing neither. “Seriously. You could find me by scent in the midst of smoke and bodies and who knows what else.” She couldn’t tell whether that was a compliment. “I trust you to look for me when this war finally warms up a bit then.” It was a busy day, and Erin's mind was going in a thousand different ways. Between the troubles and a few things work wise she'd felt like everything was thrown into the air and she was trying to catch it all without hands, or, well, everyone was trying to catch it with no hands. Currently, her hands were full of binders filled with information she needed to get through for the day. She was walking past a couple of people who she was pretty sure were talking about scents when she heard a sound behind her and turned to look. Losing her balance she knocked lightly into Logan, she remembered him from when he arrived, she was about to say sorry when she found herself looking down at her own body and a binder falling towards the floor. "Sor-" She felt the deep voice of Logan come out as the word stop midway. "What-" She looked down, yup, she wasn't where she was supposed to be. She was tall, and, okay. Scent. She kind of understood it now but she wasn't sure what to do. It didn’t take but a moment “It’s part of my mutation,” he told Val with a grin. “I told you I’m like an animal.” In a lot more ways that just tracking a scent. But he wasn’t one to talk about himself all that much so he didn’t elaborate more. Logan nodded at her, and was about to say he would when he felt someone bumping into him, and before he knew it he was on his feet except they weren’t his feet. “What the fuck,” he said, but his voice was soft and feminine, and when he looked up he saw himself sitting at the table. “Oh you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Logan crossed his arms over his chest, and looked over at Val. “So now that’s three, right?” “Three?” Erin felt a little bit of panic flow through her body. She wasn't aware of what they were talking about or that this had happened before. “What do you mean three?” She added again looking between the two of them. She couldn’t help but notice how actually short she really did look, or, well, her body. There wasn’t a lot Valkyrie wanted to say or felt really in the right condition to say about the situation as it was presently. She had the startled expression of a deer in the headlights and struggled to see Logan’s mannerisms in Erin’s body, as well as her panic wearing his features. She hadn’t been right fucking there the other times. “That’s three.” She finally confirmed, betraying no emotion from her voice. She turned to Erin-as-Logan and exhaled deeply. “It appears Atlantis is switching people’s bodies around me. I’m not doin’ it, let’s get that right, but something is and it chose my vicinity.” Frowning Erin looked between them again. “Does this have anything to do with what I’ve been hearing about happening?” It was more a rhetorical question than an actual one. “If you are doing it,” she looked at Valkyrie, “there has to be some kind of reason behind it.” She was in no way accusing Valkyrie. Looking back to herself, well, Logan. “Is there anyone who might know why this is happening that you know?” There was a feeling of panic in her and something else she couldn’t figure out. The scowl on Logan-as-Erin’s face was probably something most people were not used to seeing on the woman, but seeing as Logan was now in her body it couldn’t be helped. He let out a pointedly feminine sigh. “We’ve been investigating these things called troubles. There’s been a few things happen, but we should head over to the precinct. See if anyone has ideas. It ain’t Val’s fault, but something’s attached itself to her.” Logan-as-Erin bent to pick up the binders that had fallen, and when he stood he looked over at his body. “Be careful in there,” he said in a deadpan manner. “Don’t forget I got claws, unless you’re looking to skewer someone with them.” Valkyrie crossed her arms, turning to Erin (as Logan). “I’m not- all right, well, not intentionally anyway. I don’t know. This has as much a chance to be one of this place’s random little annoyances that will pass as it does of being a longer term thing so let’s hope for the former.” She could no longer say she wasn’t doing it with overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Rolling her eyes, Valkyrie shrugged, having no reason not to go with Logan’s suggestion. “All right, well. I suppose we’re off then?” She looked from Erin to Logan and snickered at his warning. “And you be careful in there, might not be so indestructible so don’t go punching any concrete in frustration. Sounds like you might do from time to time. Don’t break her.” Logan huffed at the warning. He had a lot of strange shit happen to him in his lifetime, but being placed in a woman’s body was not one of them. “I’ll have to remember that,” he joked in return before he turned to Erin (as Logan) and grinned. “Don’t you worry, doll face, I ain’t gonna go breaking these pretty little hands of yours.” Logan-as-Erin adjusted the binders in his arms, upset that he didn’t have his usual strength to carry them all. “We better get goin’ so we can figure it out and fix it.” Looking between Logan and Valkyrie she nodded, she really hadn’t meant to blame Valkyrie or think she was doing it on purpose but it seemed like she was the cause regardless if she wanted to be or not. “Right, don’t try and activate the claws,” Erin gave a sheepish nervous smile. Looking back to Valkyrie as she kept her hands by her side she nodded. “Right, the police department,” it sounded like as good of plan as any. “Where are the,” she paused, “troubles, from? What world? We might be able to do a search and see if this sort of thing has happened there and learn how to fix it.” “You can put the binders on my desk,” she said pointing towards the highly organized desk by the window, as she did though she nearly knocked over a standing lamp, she wasn’t used to having arms that long. Catching it she winced as it started to bend letting go she left it as was. Dollface? There was nothing more strange than hearing that out of her own mouth. “Right, we should get going,” she opted to say instead of what she was thinking. With a snicker, Valkyrie started to leave, but not before taking some of the binders from Logan’s suddenly frail arms with a mocking smirk. “Here dollface you look a little tired. But cute.” She deposited the binders on the appointed desk, then leaned over into Erin and lowered her voice to a whisper. “While you’re in there, try to hurl a car at something. Do something crazy with all that strength. Not murderous, but crazy. You’ll probably feel a little better.” Smiling, Valkyrie resumed taking the lead on the way to the police to get this all settled. Hopefully sooner rather than later. |
