Rocco checks in on his sister post kidnapping

“Roc,” Alicia said a little forcefully, “I’m fine.” She felt like she’d been saying those two words over and over again since she got back and she knew somewhere in her that she wasn’t okay, she wasn’t fine, but she was trying to be and she was sick of feeling like everyone was looking at her like she was broken. They were sitting in front of the fireplace at Alicia’s place, Alicia had a mug of tea in her hands and the dogs were all curled up around her, Leaf was on the couch next to Alicia while Scuba and Sail were curled up on the floor by her feet. Alicia even managed not to get mad at the additional animal influx while she'd been gone, she should have known better than to ask Oliver to make sure no more farm animals. “I want to know about things here,” she said looking up for the mug and to her brother again. Rocco knew that his sister wasn’t being entirely honest with him but he knew not to push. On top of the departures of Flint, Ginny, and Delilah, she’d been through a lot on the mission. How could she be okay after all that? Nevertheless, he could take a hint and he sat back and took a sip of his own cup of tea. “Katie sent me a prayer plant,” he said with a laugh. “I guess she thought I needed some help in that department. I don’t know if i’m supposed to pray to it or for it though. Chaplin just stares at it, I’m waiting for him to decide it’s a litter box which will be a mess since his arse is bigger than the pot it’s in.” Rocco was glad that he’d gotten the cat, he was good company and a never ending source of entertainment. “The whole coma thing was bad too. We were all worried about you and then Callie wouldn’t wake up. I don’t know if COS was behind that too but the timing sucked. At least she’s okay, Elle was really worried.” Rocco had been the one to tell Elle about her daughter and while he still wasn’t sure exactly where their relationship stood, he felt that she’d been glad it had been family to come and tell her. He didn’t want to get into anything serious with Alicia though so he moved to a safer topic. “ As you know, everyone is going nutters over Quidditch The people who played before, the ones not from home, are actually worse than our lot.. Somehow I ended up being Olliewood’s secretary so there’s that. I refused to wear a skiirt though.” “Both, probably.” Alicia shrugged. She didn’t really know, she liked plants but she wasn’t especially into them or knew a lot about them. “Charm it?” She suggested to keep the cat out of the plant. The mention of Elle had Alicia just nod, her own relationship with Elle was a little bit complicated. She let everything else just go past, she didn’t want to talk about what she thought about all of it. “I take it you are against kilts too?” She asked with a raised eyebrow. “I had to say no to pink and blue for my teams colors.” Alicia shrugged. She hadn’t been here when they’d decided the teams and couldn’t really have an opinion until now, heck, two of the other people on her team had been kidnapped too. “I can’t see myself in a kilt really but if I had to, I suppose I could,” he shrugged. “Pink and blue? I’m glad that didn’t pass. I can’t imagine a Quidditch team wearing pink and blue anyway. It sounds like a baby shower.” Rocco might not be a Quidditch player but he did have some ideas about the sport. Pink and blue uniforms would be one he couldn’t go along with. “I hope you talked them into something sensible.” Alicia nodded. “Yeah, wasn’t too keen on it myself. Marce was pushing for it, well, not really, but it was brought up.” She didn’t like the idea of it. “We’re looking at a couple of things right now, but they’re loads better and a lot more fun.” She smiled. “Well Quidditch is supposed to be fun. Even if I can’t stay on a broom without tossing my cookies,” he laughed. “But I always like watching and cheering for everybody. I will have to be impartial this time since I know someone on every team. I need to practice my poker face.” “So you aren’t going to be cheering for team 2?” She said narrowing her eyes. “Of course I am! I plan to cheer loudest for them and whichever team Bonnie is on and does it make me a bad boyfriend that I can’t remember right now?” he gave Alicia a sheepish grin. “I’m just happy that no one has noticed yet that I am the only Spinnet who isn’t playing. Which is fine. If anyone asks I’ll just say the same thing I said at Hogwarts. I’d rather cheer and work behind the scenes.” “Yeah,” Alicia said scrunching up her face. “You are supposed to remember the team your girlfriend plays for.” She shrugged. “So, how are you two doing?” “I’m okay. Better now that you’re back, and everyone’s awake. I wanted to go out looking for you myself but I know that would have just buggered things up. The teams here know what they’re doing. I…..” he wanted to say that he was worried about her, that he knew she wasn’t telling him everything but it wouldn’t do any good. “Well I’m glad you’re home. I’m not going to push you but if you want to talk, I promise I’ll always listen, it’s part of the big brother thing.” Frowning, Alicia thought she’d asked how he and Bonnie were doing, not about how he was doing. She wasn’t really sure how to react to everything and she sure as hell wasn’t ready to talk about what was going on in her head. “I know you’re always here.” Was what she ended up with. He’d been so busy watching her, trying to figure out he could help her that he hadn’t immediately caught that she had been referring to him and Bonnie. “Bonne and I are good. Everything’s fine. Her birthday’s coming up.” and he needed to decide what to get her although this probably wasn’t the best time to ask Alicia for help. “I think I’m gonna go,” he said. “You could probably use the peace and quiet.” Leaning down he kissed her cheek. “Call me if you need anything okay. Promise.” Alicia nodded, she sort of remembered it was Bonnie’s birthday this time of year. “Okay, see you later.” She said with a soft smile. “Yup.” Alicia wasn’t likely to need anything, but she’d call if she had to. |
