Tommy figured whatever was happening wasn’t a big deal and just part of some weird Atlantis thing, he figured whatever had been happening the day before would be over, these things usually only lasted a day or part of a day.
He was up and out of the house managing to avoid seeing any of his roommates for a morning run. It was cold, snow falling but it wasn’t too bad yet. He took a corner surprised to see another face, so surprised he slipped on a patch of ice. “Damnit,” he cursed as he caught himself righting himself.
In an effort to maintain enough fortitude to play Quidditch professionally Leanne had been jogging every single early morning since she had started playing. Just because she was a PE Teacher now didn’t mean there was a reason to stop. It was snowing, which spoke to the temperature, but if a witch couldn’t insulate her own running clothes then what good was she? And if a witch couldn’t, when met with ice, ward her shoes against slippage, then what the hell was it all for? Leanne took precautions. Precautions that the man running in the opposite direction seemed not to have taken, as he slipped as soon as he turned the corner.
“Merlin, you all right mate?” She approached him with concern - sometimes you didn’t fall only because some part of your lower body did a weird bending motion and that did you in anyway. He was, she immediately realized, an amazing man. She didn’t even know exactly why or how, but he just was. He had barely said a word and Leanne already wanted to hear every other one he might have.
Tommy nodded. “Fine,” he grumbled not interested in saying anything else but something kicked in him to be a nice human, or well, a grumbling not horrible human. “You alright?” He asked, grimacing on the inside as he started to feel like he’d seen that expression before.
Leanne nodded, a wide eyed smile as she looked up at the man. Such a commanding presence, so engaging. He had barely said anything which was usually not enough to be awe inspiring to anyone, but he somehow managed it. Leanne chuckled nervously as if she was meeting a hero of hers. “Yeah I’m fine I’m… wow. I just- wow. You’re amazing.”
“Well, shit.” Tommy groaned. “You have big ears.” She didn’t actually think the woman had big ears but he was just testing a theory to see if people reacted at all to anything that he said. Especially when it came to an insult, or a sort of insult.
Blinking for a second in confusion, Leanne reached up to touch her mostly-covered ears. She had never really considered her ears as they had never stood out too much in the mirror, but if he was saying it… “I do? Interesting, that had never crossed my mind, thanks for bringing it to my attention. You’re very observant!”
Tommy barely resisted the urge to roll his eyes, whatever was happening he wasn’t okay with it. He’d much prefer people see him and walk the other direction, not gush. “Yeah,” he said. “You should finish your run, keep yourself in shape, it’s good for Atlantis.” He didn’t really know what he was saying but he wasn’t sure how he was going to manage work if this continued.
“Such wisdom!” Leanne praised, smiling brightly up at the very serious yet very engaging man. “And you are so concerned for Atlantis, I suppose that’s how I know for sure it’s worthy.”
Leanne tightened her ponytail and tried to pull away but she was still very much interested in what little, rare, precious gems this man might have to offer. “I should go, yeah. Um, what’s your name, by the way? I’d really like to chat again some other time, this has been really engaging.”
Engaging? Tommy thought to himself doing his best not to shake his head and roll his eyes. “Tommy,” he responded on reflex. He made a mental note to avoid people going forward, or at least do his best to. “Sure.” He said before nodding in the direction he was headed. “Enjoy your run.”
“Tommy, thank you, I’m Leanne.” She smiled and started rotating her ankles and flexing her knees in order to get the blood flowing again. “You too. See you later.”
