Faith still wasn’t entirely sure what had possessed her to ask Ray to the Sadie Hawkins dance, she’d been struck with the urge and she’d ignored it until it had just gotten to the point where she couldn’t. Normally she wouldn’t go to something like the dance but she’d asked and he’d accepted so she didn’t see any reason not to go and have a good time. Both of them had lost people recently so it would be good to have a little fun. She liked Ray, it was a little weird as she had memories of him from their time spent in Breckentale. There he’d been a colleague and friend, the brother to her boyfriend but here they were just friends. When she’d suggested they get food beforehand she’d decided on somewhere nice but nothing fancy, she wasn’t the fancy food kind. It had thankfully been easy enough to get a reservation and she’d let him know what time to meet her there. She was there early and stood outside waiting for him, the air was cool, maybe a little too cool to be out in it but there she was waiting for him. She easily spotted him walking towards her, smiling at him as he got closer. She’d picked a dress that showed off her curves, she had no issues with her body and didn’t see anything wrong with wearing something that showed off what she had. “Don’t you scrub up well,” she said with a slightly teasing tone in her voice, her eyes drifting over him as he stood in front of her. She had a feeling tonight could turn out to be a lot of fun. He’d been more flirtatious than usual all day, especially whilst messaging with Faith, then when he’d seen her briefly at the base he was hard pressed to look away. But the reason why he’d said yes to the dance and the dinner was that he missed talking with her, as friends. While in Breckentale they’d been both friends and colleagues, spending a lot of time in each other’s pockets while on shifts together, and he missed that. The choice of restaurant was perfect, not too upscale, but not fast food either. He was probably going to be overdressed, but that shouldn't matter, his suit would be just right for the dance. Hopefully it’d meet with Faith’s approval too. As the restaurant came into sight, Ray spotted Faith right away, and couldn't keep the “wow” from escaping as he stopped by her side. “Thanks,” he smiled, “you too.” Getting the door, he held it open for her to go first before following behind. She hadn’t even realized that their messages had been that flirtatious earlier, it had just come naturally. She’d just been her normal self all day and it hadn’t even occurred to her that others had maybe been a little more open with flirting than they might usually be. She certainly wasn’t thinking about it now, she was looking forward to spending some time with Ray. They’d gone from spending a lot of time together in Breckentale to almost nothing in Atlantis, she wanted to fix that. Her dress might have been a bit much for the restaurant but as they were going to the dance after she wasn’t too bothered. She just hoped that it met with Ray’s approval, not that she needed anyone’s approval on her clothing but she wanted to look good for him. “Well, I wasn’t expecting the wow so it looks like I made the right choice on the dress,” she said with a smirk. She walked through the door when he held it open for her, a slight swing in her hips as she moved over to give the hostess the name for the reservation. She followed after the woman who took them to their table, glancing at Ray over her shoulder to check he was still following her. She took her seat and waited for him to sit down. “Was the rest of your day okay?” Another easy smile came to his lips and he nodded in agreement, “I’d say you definitely made the right choice. You look fantastic.” A part of him wondered if this should be weird, the two of them going to the dance together. She had dated Dylan in Breck, he’d have thought that his younger doppelganger would have been Faith’s first choice, not him. But, he reasoned, Theo and Faith had been friends longer than Wyatt and Faith had been dating. He caught the slight sway of her hips then, and it was enough to bring him out of his thoughts and back into the present. Faith was confident, powerful and stunning, and he was lucky to call her his friend. Even luckier to be going to the dance with her. Taking his seat across from her, he tried to recall what he’d done with the remainder of his day at work. “It was, I managed to get a project finished. Though that wasn’t strictly work related.” He gave a little smile, “don’t tell anyone. How about yours?” She didn’t even try and hide the grin that spread across her lips when he said she looked fantastic. “Thank you.” Faith wasn’t the sort to over analyze anything, she acted on instinct or on desire most of the time. She’d always been that way and while she wasn’t as wild as she’d once been she was still the kind to do what she wanted regardless of what others thought. She hadn’t stopped to wonder why she’d asked Ray over Dylan, it had just happened and she was going with it but there was every chance it was because of the fact she’d dated Dylan in Breck. Ray was a friend, he was a genuinely decent guy and someone she liked spending time with so she didn’t see any issue at all. For the moment she kept her attention on Ray, her menu sitting untouched in front of her. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” she said with a hint of amusement in her tone. “Mine consisted of training, training, and more training. Not that I’m complaining, I actually like training.” A soft smile came to his face as she thanked him for the compliment, glad she recognised he was being sincere. “Phew,” he grinned at her tone, enjoying the gentle teasing. “Sometimes I think I should do more training. I’ve been on one mission whilst here, but nothing like what I was used to doing back home.” In comparison to being on the Waverider, being in Atlantis was a vacation. He’d practically gone back to having a day job, working up at the base on regular shifts. “I should train with you again, it was always fun at the Firehouse.” He mused, opening the menu absently. Though he’d been in Atlantis for months now, he still wasn’t entirely used to the goings on, or how exactly field operatives were placed into teams. All he really knew was that he and Sara were both Reserves, so technically should only be called up once in a while, or if their particular world knowledge was useful. “Have you been out on many field missions?” The teasing just came naturally, it just felt right. “You’ve been slacking,” she teased with a laugh. Faith trained all the time because it was second nature to her, even if she wasn’t on a team she’d be training here. “I’ll warn you if you train with me you might end up in medical, slayer strength and all,” she said with a smile. “Though I suppose I could take it easy on you if you really wanted to train with me, it might be fun to knock your ass down on the mats.” Life in Atlantis wasn’t exactly the kind of thing someone could get used to but Faith was used to strange goings on, she took everything in stride and just adapted. She picked up her menu and started looking over it while still paying attention to him. “I’ve been on a couple, not as many as I’d like but that’s just because I don’t like waiting around for things. I’ve always been the kind to be proactive.” She glanced down at the menu for a moment before looking back up at him. “So, what are you thinking of having?” “I have, I really have,” Ray laughed, “I’ve been sucked into my desk job and become sedentary.” He didn’t doubt that she would be far more of a challenge to him than he to her, especially when he was just a normal guy, zero powers. But if Faith was willing, he might be able to learn from her, at least a different style and technique to his usual. “It’s a risk I’m willing to take. Those mats do take a lot of the impact out, so I’m not too worried about bruising my butt.” Scanning the menu, his attention was more on her words than the ones he was reading. He understood her sentiment, not one to wait around for things himself either. ATOM’s creation was testament to that, he’d pushed himself to get the project finished asap, and he was more likely to take action than sit back and wait. “I know what you mean, Atlantis has been a bit of an action break compared to home.” Looking up from his menu as she did, he smiled, “well I’m thinking carbs if I’m going to be dancing all night. Plus pasta soaks up alcohol, or so I’m told. So probably the roast chicken tagliatelle. Anything caught your eye yet?” “You want to be careful about that or you might end up getting fat,” she said with a laugh. Honestly she didn’t think that would happen but it was only meant as a tease anyway. If he was serious about sparring with her she’d be willing, it might not be much of a challenge but it wasn’t always about how challenging it was. She liked to spar, it kept her skills sharp and doing it with someone who’s company she enjoyed was never going to be a bad thing. “But if you bruise your butt how will you be able to sit at your desk all day?” She was looking over the menu, nothing really jumping out at her yet. There were times when Faith felt like she could be doing more, like she should be doing more but it wasn’t like she could go and fight the war single handedly. She wasn’t foolish enough to think she was invulnerable like she once had, she’d come a long way from the girl she’d once been. “Yeah, I’m not used to sitting around so much.” When he looked at her she smiled back at him. “Dancing all night? You know I’m going to expect that now. And I’ve heard the same thing about pasta so that’s a good idea, I don’t want to have to carry you home or anything.” She smirked a little at him. “Yeah, something’s caught my eye but as for food I was thinking the spaghetti carbonara with a chicken caesar salad on the side.” |
