It didn’t take long to find out where medical was holding those that weren’t waking up. As if there wasn’t enough going on right now, they were getting spread thin between the unwoken and the kidnapped. Emmeline wasn’t keen on taking a break from exploring the island. However when word reached her that one of the unwoken was Benjy, she dropped everything.
Benjy wasn’t even a part of a mission, it was just another Atlantis bullshit. And of course unsure of when or how they would be able to wake up again. It frustrated her, the uncertainty. On top of this she wanted to keep trying to find Eliot and the others. Mordecai had been badly hurt as were some of the others and she was angry at the fact that only one team had been assigned to find the kidnapped.
Emmeline let out a heavy sigh. Right now she put her focus on Benjy and it was much easier now that she walked to the room where he was being held. Emmeline made sure to check in, they were aware that she’d be visiting. Even if they had tried to stop her, it wouldn’t have worked. She adjusted the strap of the bag she was carrying and moved forward.
As she entered the room her eyes never left him. He just laid there, helpless. Just as he always looked when he was sleeping. Emmeline walked over to the side of the bed, she took a seat close to him and reached out for his hand. It was still warm. Her thumb brushed the backside of his hand as she hoped for some kind of movement. A little squeeze...something...anything.
Emmeline’s head lowered as her breathing grew heavy. Benjy...helpless. Eliot...helpless. The pain, the fear and the guilt was heavy. If she wasn’t so used to loss by now it could have easily overwhelmed her but she was almost an expert now. True she had spent a little bit of her free-time drinking, but she mostly did what she could to keep her head on straight. Keeping busy helped and she hadn’t been quite ready to reach out to others, especially Remus and Julia. Benjy should have been the one she reached out and she was kicking herself for only sending him a short message telling him that she was safe.
Emmeline lifted her head, her eyes burning and glistening with tears. “We’ll fix this.” She told him in a whisper. “All of it. We’ll find a way to fix this, but I’m not going anywhere. Not right now, okay?” Emmeline made sure to ask for a blanket, she would be leaving anytime soon. “I brought something.” She reached down into her bag and pulled out a small book. “Your favourite.” She smiled as she made herself more comfortable in her seat, the blanket wrapped around her.
“There is no country for old men. The young in one another’s arms, birds in the trees…” She read.
