Cisco had been planning this evening for months, ever since they’d returned from Breckentale in fact and he wanted everything to be perfect. He’d taken Lavender out to dinner at her favorite restaurant and then they had walked back to her house, taking their time, just enjoying being together. He was nervous and trying very hard not to show it but once they got inside and had gone to Lavender’s room, he was pretty sure he was going to throw up. “I’ll be right back,” he said quickly and hurried into the bathroom. “What the hell am I going to do?” he whispered. In all of his planning for the perfect night to propose, he’d forgotten to actually figure out how he was going to do it. It should be memorable but what could he do. He sat on the edge of the tub for a moment, talking quietly to himself. “Cisco, come on. You’re supposed to a genius, you can do this.” Then it hit him and he washed his face to make it look like he’d actually been feeling sick and he came out of the bathroom. “Hey, sorry about that. I’m fine, no worries. Just ate too much I guess. Can you get me a glass of water? From the kitchen, like a bottle or something..” he could have easily gotten a drink from the faucet but he needed about five minutes so this would give him time. If the other part of his plan cooperated. It had been a wonderful Christmas Eve so far. Spending time with Cisco always brought her so much joy. Plus it was Christmas Eve, and Lavender had always enjoyed this time of year. The only thing was that Cisco did seem a little...off. When he excused himself she almost went to follow him but then decided not to. When he came back she opened her mouth to ask him if he was okay but he was quick with his answer. Assuring her that he was fine. When he asked for a glass of water she blinked at him and then nodded. “Um yeah. Sure. I’ll be right back.” She stood up and walked into the kitchen and stood there for a brief moment in silence. What was going on with him? He really was acting a little weird. Did she perhaps put too much pressure on Cisco for Christmas? Of course getting gifts was fun but she tried to make sure that he didn’t need to do anything elaborate for her. Lavender loved Cisco which meant there was a good chance she’d love anything he’d get for her. Perhaps he thought the expectations were too high. She frowned, hoping that wasn’t the case. After a moment she came back into the room with water. “Here you go.” She said smiling. “Are you sure you’re okay? You’re not feeling sick or anything, are you?” As soon as she left, he went over to Cadbury’s hutch and opened the door, taking the little rabbit out.. ‘Okay buddy,” he said. “Please cooperate with me.” He only had a few minutes if that long to do what he had in mind. He took the box that held the ring out of his pocket and managed to get the ring out and tied around the rabbit’s neck with a ribbon. Luckily the rabbit was still for this even if he was twitching just a bit and as soon as Lavender came back into the room, he put the rabbit on the bed. “Thanks,” he said and took the water from her and gulped some down. He was a little nauseated but it was from sheer nerves. Putting the glass on the bedside table, he took a deep breath. “Cadbury has something for you. We worked pretty hard on this so I hope you like it.” He picked Cadbury up and handed him to Lavender, knowing that she was bound to notice the ring as soon as she she took him. “Oh does he?” Lavender asked as she looked down at Cadbury. “Is it true? Do you have some-” Her voice slowed to a stop as her eyes immediately went to the box. “Cisco.” His name came out as a whisper as she opened the box and looked at the ring inside. It was, well, there were no words to describe how beautiful the ring was. She wasn’t sure how much time had passed but she looked up, her eyes glistening with tears. “Cisco?” She said again. He watched her every move, holding his breath, and when he saw the tears in her eyes, he put Cadbury on the bed and took the ring out of the box. “I love you, Lavender. You’ve made me feel welcome here from the very start even when I was a Care Bear.” he smiled. “I think that’s when I knew that you were something special. Will you marry me?” A smile grew across her face as he spoke. Lavender remembered that day clearly. She had already been introduced to Cisco, thanks to Caitlin, but when he turned into a Care Bear, that was the first time the two of them had spent any alone time together. He was adorable and it wasn’t just because he was a Care Bear. Cisco was everything, he made her feel special and that she had more to offer. He helped Lavender see how strong and smart she truly was and while she’d like to thank herself for her confidence to grow, the truth was that loving Cisco helped her see that. “Yes, yes. Of course I will, Cisco!” Lavender set the box aside and she took Cisco’s head into her hands and kissed him passionately. After a brief moment, she smiled and laughed as a few tears rolled down her cheeks as she handed the ring to Cisco and held out her left hand for him. Cisco blinked back a few of his own tears as he slid the ring on her finger and then kissed her hand. “Perfect fit,” he told her. “I confess I talked to Parvati before she left to find out your size, never expected her to come back for the actual event. I’m glad you like it. I thought someone named Lavender needed a ring to match although it’s more purple but what the hell.” He was just glad she liked it but more than that, he loved the look on her face as she looked at him. It was kind of a running joke back home that Cisco had the worst luck with women and it was true. He always fell for the wrong people but this time, he’d gotten it right. “We better put the rabbit back in the hutch,” he suddenly remembered. “Not that he’d get far but he’s probably wondering what is going on.” “It’s perfect.” Lavender said as she looked down at her hand. It was easy to start picturing everything leading up to a wedding. Cisco’s words about Cadbury brought her back to reality. “Oh right, thanks love.” Lavender said lovingly as she made sure to put Cadbury back. “I promise we’ll take you out later and play.” Right now Cisco deserved her attention. “First. I want to make a little announcement to our friends and then…” She let it hang as she leaned over and kissed him again, this time a little more suggestively. “Well I guess we’ll just have to use some imagination.” He grinned. “That was kind of what I had in mind. I’m pretty sure we can figure out something to do.” Pulling her into his arms, he kissed and when he let her go, he rested his forehead against hers. “Merry Christmas,” he said softly |
