Crap. Fred hadn't really thought about the complicated part of why they'd actually get rid of Angel's soul when she'd said the words aloud. She took a second to finish what she was chewing and took another second to wash it down with a swallow of her drink. "It was, well, really complicated. As these things usually are, right? Um. Okay, so there was this big bad stomping around Los Angeles. End of the world, raining fire and blotting out the sun kind of bad. This big bad made it known that he knew who Angel was only Angel didn't remember him. Turns out Angel only knew him as Angelus - what he called himself when he didn't have a soul. The only way we knew to stop this guy was to bring back Angelus. We did everything we knew to do as a precaution to keep him locked up." Only that hadn't gone as well as they'd hoped since Cordelia had mistakenly let him out. Or Jasmine controlling Cordelia had let him out. Fred still honestly wasn't sure the timeline of how that all went down or when Cordy was out and Jasmine was in control. At the question about hurting people, Fred nodded and glanced down at her plate. "He did. We were able to reinstate his soul and he became Angel again, but not before he'd hurt people."
See, this was the trouble in letting out all of the secrets about what her life was like. Fred knew there would be questions. Reasonable questions, but some of them were a little awkward. She shook her head. "Giles is okay. I mean, as far as I know. I never really knew him, though, we've chatted a couple of times over the phone about things. Wesley... I think he came to Sunnydale to help out for a while before he eventually joined Angel and Cordy in LA." That was one way to gloss over what happened. Fred hadn't been around for any of that in Sunnydale, though, so she didn't really think it was her place to talk about it. Faith knew more than she did and even then it was still really complicated when it came to her and Wesley.
Fred smiled. "Weird, huh? Something as normal as high school graduation on a hellmouth. But, yeah, you guys graduated." She was pretty sure the school blew up, but that was another detail she wasn't going to get into unless she was specifically asked. "Angel went to LA after that, and you stayed in Sunnydale. I think he said you even went to college."
A couple more bites of food, and Fred and finished what was on her plate. As Buffy seemed to rehash everything that had spilled out in conversation, she reached over for another eggroll and waited to see what questions might come next. She smiled a little and shrugged. "I know it's a lot to hear no matter who it comes from, but I'm try to answer what I can. I came into the picture late compared to when you met Angel, but Cordy and Wesley filled in a little of the backstory." Some of that backstory was the two of them trying to reenact their history in dramatic fashion, but Fred kept that to herself. From what she could tell, Buffy didn't know about the deeper relationship she and Angel had developed not too long after what she last remembered.
