January was off to a busy start at the lab. There were all sorts of projects going on, plus her own projects that were scattered all over the tables. Most people probably didn't appreciate her workspace, but it made organized in her own way that made sense to her - and probably only her - and heaven help the person who moved a section of her notes out of the way to make room for their own. Thankfully, the busy days meant that the hours usually passed fairly quickly, so when she looked up at the clocked and realized she'd actually stayed later than planned, Fred gathered up her essentials to put away and was out the door.
Cooking was never one of her strong suits, but ordering take-out and getting it home in time so that it was still warm was one of her superpowers. Fred called ahead to and ordered enough Chinese food to feed five grown men. She could put away a lot of food in one sitting, but she also liked munching on the leftovers straight out of the fridge. When she arrived, the food was nearly ready, so she was soon back on her way to the house. She saw Buffy's coat by the front door, so she knew the other girl was already home for the afternoon.
"I brought Chinese," she called out to the younger girl. She had been acting as Buffy's guardian for a while now, but sometimes it was still strange seeing the slayer as a teenager when she knew back home she was around Cordy's age instead. Still, they got along well, and it was nice having someone from home to talk to even if they'd never actually laid eyes on one another.
She was grabbing a soda from the fridge when Buffy appeared from her room. "There's a little of everything there," she said, looking over her shoulder. "Dig in."
