There was no logical reason for it but Bella was in a hurry, she’d picked up two juices, two coffees and some pastries to take to meet her brother. It wasn’t like she was late or anything, she was just excited. The drink holder was balanced in her left hand with her right keeping it steady, and the pastries held by her left pinkie. What she wasn’t expecting as she hurried along was to all of a sudden stop.
Everything she was holding went flying forward, into the air, her eyes were wide as she watched everything come crashing down.
Peter just happened to be coming that way and while he wasn’t quick enough to prevent everything from hitting the ground and spilling all over the place, he did quickly bend to try and help pick everything up. At least, that’s what he intended to do, but as he got close to her, he found himself suddenly stuck, too.
“What?” he asked, looking at Bella first because looking up. Mistletoe. It was getting even sneakier this year, cropping up suddenly where it hadn’t been a moment ago. “Oh.” Being caught under mistletoe in Atlantis with someone he didn’t know well. That wasn’t awkward at all.
Great. Bella really sort of wished she could disappear right now. “Yup,” she said forcing an awkward smile. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to get you stuck too.” Truthfully Bella wouldn’t have said anything and just stayed stuck, but that wasn't an option.
“It’s all right,” Peter assured her, offering a smile. It wasn’t her fault his quickness to try and help her had ended with him getting stuck, too. Even knowing what the results would be, he wouldn’t have refrained from trying to help her.
“So,” Bella said as her cheeks started to turn red. “I guess there is only one way out of this.”
“Yes, I suppose you’re right,” Peter agreed. His own cheeks were flushed a little and he’d like to claim it was the cold, but the prospect of kissing a girl he didn’t know well, even if Atlantis had put him in some stranger situations, was a bit awkward.
Bending down a little, he pressed his lips lightly to Bella’s.
Bella got on her toes to try and make it a little easier, given she was a lot shorter. Once his lips touched hers she leaned in for a split second before stepping back. Finally free. “Thanks,” she said unsure what else to say.
“Of course, anytime,” Peter said, turning pink as he realized how that sounded. “Er, I meant I’m always happy to help someone in need,” he clarified rather awkwardly.
Bella smiled looking down. “Well, thank you.” She looked around. “Well, I’ll see you later.”
“Yes.” Peter cleared his throat, still feeling a little self-conscious. “I’m sure you will.” He was absolutely not telling his siblings about this.
