Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde ✦ OPEN
Henry finally gives in to Edward's badgering and lets him out. TBA OPEN |
Henry, let me out. “Why?” I’m bored. “That’s supposed to convince me?” You said you wouldn’t imprison me anymore. Henry sighed and sat down heavily on his bed. He ran a hand down his face then stared at it, at the way it was trembling slightly. He didn’t want to think about what Edward had said and about the truth in it. I’m not going to hurt people. I want to look around. You never go anywhere interesting. Edward’s tone was almost coaxing and Henry half-believed it. Then again, he’d believed that tone of voice before in the past and it hadn’t gone well. That was then. “You’ve changed, have you?” Henry said sceptically. Yes. Henry blinked at that blunt answer. “Why?” he asked, half curious and half dubious. Edward was silent in the back of his head and he could feel the way his alter ego was hesitating to answer. It snuck through anyway and Henry was startled. “You like being a... a hero!” It wasn’t so bad, Edward said and his mental tone was deliberately offhand. “You... you won’t hurt people anymore?” Only bad people. “Bad by whose definition?” There was another of those mental shrugs. We’ll talk about it. You’re better at that side of it anyway. “You know,” Henry said flatly. Yeah, maybe, but I don’t care a lot of the time. You do. Henry got and paced back and forth. He could feel the nervous shivers running through him and he hated them, hated that he could never seem to stop them. He could never seem to stop any of his nervous habits, no matter how hard he tried. “You’ll listen to me?” he demanded, stopping to stare into a mirror and seeing Edward’s blurred reflection instead of his own. We agreed, didn’t we? “I... yes,” Henry said. “I just wasn’t sure you were serious.” I like it. Like the way Quatermain looked at us. Liked working with Nemo. There was a pause then Edward continued with sly, teasing amusement. Still doesn’t mean she’ll give you a second glance. Henry scowled and turned away from the mirror. “Shut up!” Edward sighed in his head. Let me out, Henry. Henry hesitated for a moment then he nodded. “Very well.” He walked over to the desk in his room and caressed the top of the small chest he’d brought with him. He paused briefly before undoing the catch and opening it up. The little glass bottles within looked so innocuous but he knew they weren’t, not by any means. He pulled one out and after a brief hesitation, he pulled out the cork and swallowed the serum within. He put the bottle down and staggered away from the desk into the middle of the room as the transformation began. Pain ripped through him as his body grew and reorganised itself until he was finally shunted to the back of his own mind and Edward stood in the middle of their room in the tattered rags that had once been a very nice suit. “Ah, that feels good,” Edward rumbled. “Now let’s go out and have some fun.” Behave, Henry said urgently. Remember what they said when we arrived! “Stop being a weakling,” Edward said as he reached for the door handle. “I’m not going to do anything to jeopardise our place here.” Henry subsided but remained watchful. He could feel Edward’s irritation at his lack of trust but he felt he had cause. Now he just had to hope that Edward would just be... Edward and not the monster. |
