In France, we call it Noel. Children will leave their shoes by the hearth to be filled with gifts and also wake up to find sweets, nuts, and small toys hung on the tree. Most homes also display a creche (I think it's called a nativity scene here), complete with clay santons that will sometimes include important locals like a beloved king or other dignitary.
We would make a cake, shaped like a log. The buche de Nol, or Christmas Log if you prefer the English. It's served with a feast at midnight on the eve of Christmas. Let's see. Ah, we'd also burn a yule log continuously from the even til the new year for good luck.
