The shimmering pale light of the moon cascaded down against the black waters of the ocean at night as they rippled against the waves and shivering lands beneath them. The moon's reflection stretched into the inky horizon, a distorted image as the waves built and dropped. The winds pushed and pulled the waters, filling the night sky with a chilling breeze, pushing up along the rolling green hills and cliffsides of Atlantis' shores, and eventually against and around the dark figure standing on one of their edges. Vader's cape rippled in the winds, his emotionless mask a stark contrast to the luminescence of the moon's rays. His hands rested behind him, hand gripping one arm as he stared menacingly over the great sea. The figure was deep in his own head, thinking, contemplating, trying so hard to understand his place in all of this, his place in history. Was he a good man? He'd done terrible, despicable, heart wrenching things; unforgivable things in the name of 'order' and the 'Dark Side', but his reasoning, his desire to reach into that power had always been to save those he loved. He loved so deeply, he'd wanted, for so long, to stop losing and to win. In Breckentale, he'd managed to finally get that. Even there, though, he lost someone he loved. Yet he was allowed to be a father, to raise children. He had lived that life; his memories of it were there, and while now they felt like a distant dream, then they had been so real. And even then, the moment his memories of his past returned, he couldn't help but lash out, violently, angry. He'd nearly killed a woman that, now, may have never been real, but then had certainly been. He felt the Force surrounding him, touching him, but since arriving he'd closed himself off to a great deal of its power, fearful of what he might do with it, what it might bring out in him. The touch of power, it was seductive, even now. Why couldn't he shake it? He was Anakin Skywalker again, but Darth Vader was always nearby. Always lurking... could he ever escape it? Was he capable of being that man? Was he a good man? Or was he just pretending? |
