AUGUST 28
ISAAC TREVILLE ✦ INDY SAMUELS
THEY CHAT DURING A BACK TO SCHOOL FIRE DRILL G COMPLETE |
Safety drills at school were not one of the things Indy looked forward to, sure she understood them, they were important but they took hours and Indy had a lot of other things that she was wanted to get done that day. She was standing outside after one of the drills and ended up standing next to one of the firefighters. Breck was a pretty small town and Indy had done her CPR recertification with him a couple of years before. “Hey, Isaac right?” She was pretty sure she had his name right but she wasn’t 100% sure and figured it was safer to ask. “So, how do you think the drills are going so far?” She knew it wasn’t easy with new students and drills were sort of strange in their own way anyway. Isaac didn’t consider himself much of a teacher but he was usually good with kids. Mostly because he didn’t treat them like kids until they acted like kids. He’d done the fire drills at the high school for a couple of years now and they generally went well. Minus the one time a troublemaker had decided to pull the fire alarm right after everyone had come back inside. So far, no troublemakers this round, but there was still time for all that. He waved a few kids towards their class nearby as Indy started up a dialogue. “Isaac, yeah. It’d be weird if I knew your name, so I’m relieved to say I don’t,” he laughed. “But it’s good so far. The alarms are workin’ as annoyingly well as ever, that’s for sure.” As if to prove his point, the noise got louder for a second as a side door opened nearby and more kids flowed out. Isaac smirked, one eyebrow raised. “Indy,” She answered with her name and a small laugh as she glanced to the side. “And here I thought the broadcast system was going to be less annoying this year.” Indy watched as the door opened and sighed. “How much longer do you think the drills are going to be today? You know I was studying up to renew my CPR certification, it was important work.” She was sort of teasing but she really had been reviewing everything just to be sure. Indy was one of those annoyingly organized students. “Probably not too much longer,” Isaac said, head tilting as he squinted out at the different groups of classes in their assigned spots and then looked back to Indy. “Think there’s a quick assembly after though, if they stick to last year’s format,” he grimaced. God knows he’d hated assemblies when he’d been a teenager. But then he’d skipped most of them to get into trouble with Rene, so really, they’d been a good thing. His mouth twitched with a smirk. “Do me a favour and get some of your friends to sign up for the next CPR class too, eh?” He checked off a few boxes on the clipboard in his hand, his eyes still watching everything carefully even as he held up his end of a conversation. “It’s my go this round and nobody likes a half-empty class.” Indy frowned when he said the wold assembly, they were usually really boring and she was pretty sure this one wouldn’t have any information on homecoming or any of the other more interesting aspects of high school, no it was likely going to be boring. Laughing she shrugged. “I can do my best, but I’m not sure many of them are as interested in CPR classes, no offence but sometimes they can be really kind of dull, important,” she added quickly. “But without a real-world example or something that shows how important it is, I think they just get bored quickly.” She shrugged. “That and sitting through more classes after classes isn’t high on anyone's list, unless there was some kind of treat, like cookies or something, food usually gets people to come to things.” Isaac laughed. “Suppose that’s fair. We could try doin’ some kind of dramatic reenactment business. Can’t say that’s an avenue we’ve never gone down, but it’s been a little while.” The last time they’d done something like that, he’d taken some grief for being a little too friendly with Aramis in the scenario. They’d been new to the whole working together thing, though. He liked to think he was more professional now. “Food bribes are already on the menu too, though. Planned on bringing my double fudge brownies, at the very least,” he smirked. “You should! Get some of us that have been through training already and are just renewing our stuff, we know what we’re doing, at least most of us do, and that way we can have a little more fun and you might get a few other people interesting.” Indy suggested nodding her head. Laughing she grinned. “Well, I guess I can add extra workouts to my to do list too huh?” “I could make you all run through the firefighter obstacle course afterwards, I’m just sayin’,” Isaac joked. The last of the people inside the building seemed to have trickled out and met with their teachers, who were marking off names on their clipboards. He glanced down at his own. “Looks like you better get back with your class so we can wrap this up. But I’ll get on that plan for a reenactment, yeah? Meanin’ I better see you in class,” he added with a lift of his eyebrows and his chin down. He gestured off towards the class he was reasonably certain she’d wandered over from. Indy thought for a moment. “I might take you up on that,” she warned as she looked back to where it looked like things could start moving forward. “See you soon, don’t have too much fun torturing us students.” She grinned as she headed off to join some of her friends.
