Kaitlyn was jealous. That was all there was to it. She knew it. She hated it. But she couldn't help it. Ever since Steve got together with his girlfriend, she saw her big brother less and less. Gone were the weekly sibling dinners in favor of spending more time with his girlfriend. Gone were the usual boughts of sibling hysteria. Gone was... everything. She knew it wasn't the girlfriend's fault. She knew it wasn't really Steve's fault. Kaitlyn knew, in fact, that it was her own feelings of inadequacy that was causing this because, while she was happy with her life, she was still on her own. And while at nineteen, that wasn't the end of the world, it still sucked when it had been the brother and sister team against the world for so very long. It was the dream she had the previous night that stemmed her decision this evening. A vivid dream of a bright light and the sense of Heavenly peace that settled upon her in the dream. She could have sworn she caught a glimpse of an angel in a trenchcoat whenever she tried to recall it completely... and she felt the overwashing sense of happiness, for both her brother and herself. It was a feeling that she needed, she knew. Because she loved Steve and she wanted him to be happy. It had just been so difficult with everything that had changed. Still, she awoke that morning with a new sense of wellbeing. Of feeling at peace. She awoke with a renewed sense to reconnect with her big brother and his girlfriend. But Steve first and foremost. So she'd sent him a text and asked to meet him for dinner like they used to. She figured it was the best start. |
