Casing Atlantis
Kate would be lying if she said she'd never questioned God's plan. She'd done it on numerous occasions: When her mother died. When her father sold his wedding ring and bought an RV. When he took them out of school and started driving. When the Geckos kidnapped the three of them. When they were caught in the middle of a Culebra feeding frenzy. When she had to kill her own father after he was bitten and turned. When Scott was turned. When Seth got hooked on heroin. When Scott turned his back on her completely. When she died. When Amaru possessed her. It seemed like God's plan for her was nothing but pain. What kind of God would put all that on one woman? But when she took a step back, she saw it all for what it was. God was making her stronger. Making her more worldly. He was setting her up for her place in a war bigger than just her. A place where she might be some kind of help, even if it was just a kind word or a way to keep people around her optimistic. If it hadn't been for her kidnapping, Kate would have never met Seth. Would have never known there was someone she could fall in love with so completely that she'd give up her own life to save him (as well as the rest of the world, but still). She would have never met Richie, who had his own brand of genius and ingenuity. She would have never found her own strength in facing her problems and adversaries. So now, once again, Kate was facing a new challenge in her life. A change that brought her to this place. To Atlantis. And the first thing a good criminal did was case her target. Atlantis was one big target, in a sense. Something she needed to learn about. Places she needed to know about. So that's what she did. She set out on her own in order to find out what she could about this place. She may have already gotten the tour, but that didn't mean that they showed her everything. One thing she knew about authority figures, they never showed you everything... and that meant she had to find the hidden spots on her own. |
