“Kol Mikaelson, I don’t like you.” Caroline said as she took a seat across from him at a table. “You’re kind of insane, okay, hold the kind of, but you’re not as bad as Kai Parker and frankly your little witch fiance is adorable and she deserves a good wedding and from what I can tell you two haven’t even started planning!” She said horrified.
Crossing her arms on the table and leaning forward towards Kol she narrowed her eyes. “Well, annoying original vamp, what are you going to do about your wedding and you better make it a day Davina will love, every girl deserves to have their dream wedding.”
Without paying any attention to him she pulled out a three-ring binder and shoved it over at him. “Here, this will give you something to start with.”
Kol was busy enjoying his cup of tea when the blonde sat across from him and immediately declared her distaste for him. He opened his mouth to speak, probably something along the lines of how on earth was his brother so obsessed with this girl, but she kept on talking. About his personal matters - his wedding to Davina. Sitting back in his seat, Kol simply watched her curiously as he waited for her to finish her tirade. What he hadn't expected was for the rather large notebook to be shoved across the table to him.
He knew that he and Davina needed to start talking about their wedding, but after living as long as he had, Kol didn't often have the best sense of time. He saw no reason to rush, but his version of rushing was likely much different than someone who lived a mortal life even if that life was far from normal.
“Are you finished?” He asked her. His eyes went back down to the binder and suddenly felt out of his league. He would give Davina the largest and most extravagant wedding if that's what she wanted, but they hadn't talked particulars yet. He also wasn't one for careful and detailed planning in any part of life. Plus, with both Marcel and Rebekah now gone, he knew they would be missing their families.
“It seems you've already started some of the planning yourself. Why stop now?”
A mix of horror and disbelief crossed her face. “What?! No!” She said rolling her eyes. “That’s stupid, I’m not planning your wedding, not that I couldn’t, because trust me, I can plan a wedding. Done it before.” She stopped thinking back to the weddings she’d been involved with and how in a lot of cases they didn’t have the best outcomes.
“But, this is about you and Davina, so shouldn’t you, you know, plan the wedding with her. Do you even know what she wants?”
Kol had a feeling that he would get that sort of reaction out of her, but it was amusing all the same. The truth was, though, that he didn’t have the first clue about planning a wedding. Oh, he could compel or hire a dozen people to do it for him and give instructions on how extravagant he wanted it, but doing the planning himself? That was a new experience entirely.
He paused at her next set of questions. “What, like flowers, centerpieces, and the cake?” He glanced down at the notebook and assumed that there were some ideas in that thing for all sorts of weddings. “No, we haven’t discussed specifics. I do know that I can’t imagine that she would want something that all of Atlantis invited for.” Something he was more than okay with since half the people in this city he either didn’t know or didn’t particularly like on most days.
"Yes, like flowers, centerpieces, who your best man is going to be, and her maid of honor. Those are all really important parts of a wedding." She said in disbelief.
"You're like what? Over a thousand and you are this clueless about weddings? And don't give me the standard 'Klaus had me daggered' answer because it's not like you were always daggered." Caroline pointed at him.
"Well, you two aren't exactly social butterflies of Atlantis." She shrugged. "But I can get that, it would be really weird to have someone you didn't even know show up at your wedding, especially people like the two of you."
Best man. Kol had to wonder if he even knew a bloke that well to call him his best man. There were a handful of people he’d choose if they were actually inAtlantis, but his options were much more limited here. He was fairly sure that the only men here from their world were Damon Salvatore and Kai Parker, and he would turn his nose up at both of those. He knew Davina had an odd friendship with the latter, but Kol couldn’t be bothered with the vampire. If they each had their top choice, the roles would probably be reversed: Kol would have his maid of honor in Rebekah, and Davina would have her best man in Josh.
“Well,” he started. “I suppose I can do some thinking on…. that, and discuss it with Davina to see what she would like.” No, he wasn’t entirely clueless about weddings, no, and he’d been to numerous events over the centuries. Planning his own seemed much more complicated.
“And you, Wedding Planner, I hope you’ve freed up your schedule to assist her when it’s needed.”
“You can do better than some thinking, you can do something about it.” Caroline said rolling her eyes but oddly pleased with this conversation. She briefly wondered how Klaus would react to Atlantis and his younger brothers upcoming wedding.
“You are not going to be some absentee groom Kol Mikaelson, that would be a huge waste, it’s not like you’ve ever gotten married before.” She said with confidence before realising she had no clue if that was true. “Have you?” The question as added on with some accusation to her voice.
Kol just gave her a deadpan look. “No, I’ve never been married. Eaten a few wedding parties , I suppose, but this will be my first entrance into holy matrimony.” Heh. Holy matrimony. Would God going to strike him down if he dared get married inside of a church or chapel? Probably best not to test that.
He patted the very large notebook on the table in front of him. “But this will do the job, yes? Get me started, as you’ve said.” The size of the notebook probably would do more than get them started, but at least it was something - hopefully with a lot of pictures.
Studying her, Kol paused for a moment. “Why are you helping me?” He asked her. She said it was because of Davina, but it had to be more than that. “I doubt it’s simply because you want my fiance to have the perfect wedding.”
"Of course you have," Caroline groaned rolling her eyes. "So not cool eating people on someone's happiest day!!" She added but knew it would do no good. This was Kol Mikaelson after all.
She nodded confidently that the notebook would help them both, but probably more Kol than Davina.
Pausing she looked down with a shrug. "I don't know." She started to answer. "I guess because I want to see a couple actually get their happily ever after, and I know it's never that simple, but I think you and Davina have a real chance at being happy and after all the failed romances and people coming and going from our world, I guess it'd just be good to see one really work out." Caroline paused again smiling softly. “And, you’re Hope’s uncle, and I know she cares a lot about you and as surprising as it is, you aren’t the worst Uncle.”
There was a lot to unpack in Caroline’s answer, but Kol just studied her and kept his thoughts to himself - impressive, considering he often had trouble holding his tongue. He simply filed the information away for later and didn’t press her for more of a specific explanation.
“The favorite uncle,” he clarified. “I’m the fun one.” His niece likely favored one of his sisters over the lot of them, but lord knows that Elijah couldn’t be the favored. He was all business and no fun 99.9% of the time.
“Thank you then, I suppose.” As for his and Davina’s happiness, that was something he was sure and determined to have. Not for his sake, even though he did long for that happiness, but for hers. He would spend all of his lifetimes striving to make her happy, and that was how he knew he truly loved her. Kol had spent centuries living for himself and his own pleasure.
“I’ll make sure she knows who to ask if she has any questions,” he said with a wink, half teasing. Yes, he would help plan his own wedding, but he also knew he couldn’t help with absolutely every little girly detail.
Rolling her eyes she was about to make a snarky comment about favorite uncles, but she knew Hope really did like Kol and he talked to her which was always important.
“You both know where to find me!” She said standing up and spinning heading away from him.
