At Adele being called spirited, Jane smiled. She knew that Mr. Rochester was not always the kindest to his ward, but the fact he was trying to make an effort in front of her, was at least progress. It was Jane's wish that Mr. Rochester could express his love Adele as his child, regardless if they were connected by blood or not. Jane did not doubt that the love was there.
Before Jane could utter another protest, she stopped as Rochester included himself in the suggestion and that they all needed something to wear. It was hard for Jane to justify it for herself, she also didn't want to cause trouble for her employer. "What social events?" Jane asked because honestly, she had no expectation of doing anything other than taking care of Adele. She still doubted her presence was needed during calls, but she could at least look presentable.
Anything else she might have said was forgotten as Mr. Rochester took her hand. If she had been blushing before, Jane had no idea what her complexion looked like now. She gave in and nodded. "Thank you Mr. Rochester. I do not wish to be ungrateful. I accept your kindness."
