While she wasn't a fan of being stuck in a place she couldn't leave (and she'd tried on more than a few occasions) she had to admit there were some definite perks to her new found situation. For one she'd never been this clean in her life, the bed was something she could more than get used to. The mere fact she could walk around outside (though she was still more than on guard despite the lack of machines) was like heaven. And last, but definitely not least, was the food. Real food. Not the crap she'd spent her life eating, the bits and pieces they managed to scavenge from places no one should ever have to eat. She was at least a little lucky on that end, she could barely remember anything different. But even though her recollection of golden arches and cheeseburgers were foggy distant things it had never stopped her mouth watering when the older ones would get into discussions about the food they missed most from before Judgment Day. So to say she was making up for lost time in the food department would be an understatement. She'd all but made herself sick the first day she stuffed her face with burgers and fries from the burger place. Her body was definitely not used to that kind of food. But it didn't stop her from going back for more. Or checking out the Chinese place, or the buffet. She was pretty sure if she ever figured out how to get back she was only screwing herself over but she really didn't care. She'd take what she could while she could. And today wasn't any different as she ordered a pile of cheeseburgers a girl her size really shouldn't be able to even fathom finishing off, a large fries and shake. It was probably a good thing people seemed content to just give everything away here or she'd be really screwed. She took the food and grabbed a seat near a window with her tray. Dean had been standing in line, studying the menu for anything that looked particularily interesting despite knowing he was going to get what he always got when he'd noticed the woman behind the counter filling up the tray of the girl in front of him. He watched curiously as one cheeseburger after the other was piled on and then a single serving of fries and a shake were placed on the tray to finish it off. Either someone was a big fan of cheeseburgers or really into eating their feelings. He ordered his normal meal, not entirely different from hers, though he was short a burger or two and when he turned around he was surprised to see her still on her own. Obviously there wasn't going to be anyone else joining her, which was all the invitation Dean needed as he made his way over and sat down at the mini table next to her. "There's no way a girl as tiny as you are is about to eat all of those cheeseburgers," he commented. "Tell me you're taking some of those home." She glanced over at Dean as she heard him talking and took a quick minute to look the guy over before she replied. He was good looking, in that probably knew it way, and reminded her more of the people she knew back home than anyone she'd seen so far. "That sounds like a challenge," she joked with a grin. "But the answer is yes, I fully intend to eat all of these cheeseburgers." She took a quick drink of her shake and glanced back over at Dean with a shrug. "It's been a while since I've been somewhere with cheeseburgers, kind of making up for lost time and all that," she explained. Give her a few more days here and the thrill would probably wear off and she'd be down to consuming normal amounts of food. "Yeah?" He asked, raising an eyebrow as he unwrapped one of his own. "Don't know if a life without cheeseburgers is worth living," he said, only half joking. Well, that definitely explained the quantity, though he still wasn't sure she was going to be able to stomach all of that. He looked at the burger in front of him for a moment, appreciating it and then took a large bite, chewing it was he talked. "Where'd you come from that there's no cheeseburgers? I want to make sure to avoid it." "Gotta say I'm getting close to that thinking," she half joked back. She would definitely be hurting when or if she got sent back after getting used to the caliber of food here. She took the time to eat some of her own while the talking lulled. She thought over the question for a minute, it seemed like everyone so far was coming from places at least a little similar, or close to the same time give or take a few years. She seemed to, so far at least, be the only one this displaced. It was weird, and she wasn't sure if she really liked it. "The future apparently, killer robots, not really cheeseburger friendly," she answered. Which was the short way of saying a place a hell of a lot crappier than this, minus the being stuck bit. Dean raised his eyebrows in recognition, swallowing his bite and taking a sip of his shake before nodding. "Alison, right?" He leaned over the space and held out his hand. "Dean, we talked on the journals." He paused and grinned at her. "I'm supposed to be proving how awesome I am, right?" He paused for a moment, eating a couple of fries. "I always liked versions of the future that had robots that got you whatever food you liked instantaneously. Too bad it didn't turn out that way. How'd they get the upper hand anyway?" She nodded and reached her own hand to shake his. "Yeah, that'd be me." She let go of his hand and grinned "and I'll be sure to let you know what I've decided on the awesome front." Though so far it was looking pretty good in his favour, he seemed nice, definitely wasn't hard to look at, all in all there could have been worse people to be stuck with. She ate while he asked the question, making a pretty decent dent on the stack of cheeseburgers already. It was weird, being around people who didn't know. "A defense program was created, Skynet, it was supposed to help us but something went wrong," she paused for a moment and looked over at him. "It became self aware, and when they tried to shut it down it turned against us. It had... has... control over everything. It bombed the hell out of us and what it didn't kill on Judgment Day it created machines to try to kill the rest." She paused and took a moment to unwrap another burger before she spoke again, trying to cram almost twenty years of history into a couple sentences wasn't the easiest. "We fight, but we're outnumbered, out armed, but it's better than just giving up," she added. She smirked a little, "so long story short, I'd totally take the ones that got you food too," she agreed and offered him a smile. Dean licked his lips and shook his head. "Talk about technology gone wrong," he said, taking another sip of his drink. "Dude, that sucks." He paused. She wasn't really a dude - at all. She wasn't really what he'd picture as a resistance fighter either with her tiny frame and delicate features, but if her walk matched her talk she could probably kick some ass. First Rose and now her, maybe they were collecting fighters from different time lines. "Who was behind this Skynet thing? Was it the government or some kind of private company?" All he knew for sure was that he was going to be keeping a serious eye out for any mention of it if he ever got back. She shrugged a little at the that sucks comment. She honestly didn't really know any different, at least up until now. And as far as she was concerned this whole sitting around thing was getting real old real quick. It wasn't in her nature to sit still, and as twisted as that probably made her to wish for her life over the opportunity to be safe here she wanted nothing more than to go home. "Both," she answered. "Far as we can tell started as a private project that was picked up by the government but no one's really entirely sure. Most people didn't even know what it was until it was too late." She grabbed a sip of her drink and then looked back to him. "So what about you? What were you up to before being turned into a glorified prisoner?" Dean tilted his head, unwrapping another cheeseburger even though he was starting to feel full. There was no way he was going to let himself get eaten under the table by some girl who was half his size. "Guess some of those crazy conspiracy theories turn out to be true after all," he said. Crazier things had happened. He should've seen the question coming from a mile away, but he found himself unprepared for it. He took a bite of his burger, chewing it slowly in order to give him time to think. He could tell her the truth considering how it wasn't as crazy as killer robots. At least not to him. Or he could spin her some story about the family business. Or he could keep it vague and see where it got him. "Last thing I remember is a long stretch of highway," he said giving a small shrug. "Me and my brother travel around hunting, so we're on the road a lot. Don't get me wrong. I like the food but I'd really like to know what the hell happened to my car." He paused. "They got talking cars in the future? Like in Knight Rider?" "Oh yeah, what do you hunt?" she asked. "Your brother get stuck here too?" It was one of the questions without a clear cut good answer. On one hand Dean seemed like a nice guy who didn't deserve to be stuck somewhere without his brother, and on the other if they were both here that was just someone else stuck and trapped. She shook her head a little. "Naw, half the time you're lucky to get something you can still get going. And what's Knight Rider?" She grinned sheepishly at the question. It was pretty easy to assume it was a talking car of some sort but past that she hadn't a clue. "All sort of things," Dean said before taking another bite. "Yeah, he showed up a day or two after me. Don't know whether to be happy or not about that. Especially since I don't know why exactly we're here." He forced himself to chew and swallow. "Guess the future doesn't really shed any light on that either, does it?" He laughed and shook his head. "It's this show about a talking car and the guy who owns it. The Hasslehoff's best, though I have to admit Baywatch was fun to watch." He grinned to himself and then realized he wasn't alone. He cleared his throat and stuffed a fry in his mouth. "That's a show about lifeguards. Saving lives. Premium entertainment." All sorts of things was definitely that answer that wasn't really an answer but she wasn't about to press it. She barely knew the guy, he could be vague if he wanted to. She shrugged a little with a smile, "sorry, but I got nothing." Though seeing as no one could actually figure out a date whether or not this was anyone's future or past was up for debate. She laughed a little at the Baywatch description and the grin that had come before. "Let me guess, attractive lifeguards?" "You've seen it?" Dean asked, clearly amused as he pushed away his tray full of wrappers and leaned back in his chair. "Yep, attractive and they like to run. What else can you ask for?" He took a long pull on his drink. "You know, you've got a lot of catching up to do bad TV wise. I could help you with that." She shook her head, "nope, but somehow I can't see a show about lifeguards being premium entertainment any other way." And of course the running helped clinch that one. "I bet you could," she countered with a smirk. "But seriously, I'd like that, it'll be a nice distraction while I'm stuck here." Alison balled her last wrapper and tossed it on the pile and gave Dean a grin. "If they leave me here much longer I'm going to have a freaking heart attack." "Nah," he said, measuring her up with a quick glance. "You're in great shape. You don't have to worry about that." Still, he was glad he hadn't put money down on her not finishing. Girl could pack away more than he thought possible. He leaned forward. "This marathon happening at my place, or yours?" She shook her head a little at the question. "Wait, are we still discussing watching Baywatch?" She was fairly certain he hadn't meant for it to come out like a bad pick up line but it kind of sounded like it and she was not above razzing someone when the opportunity struck. "Yeah, unless you got something else in mind," Dean said casually, but not quite pulling it off without a little smile. "I'm open to ideas." Okay, so it wasn't his smoothest pick up, but any girl who looked like that, appreciated cheeseburgers and was up for a Baywatch marathon was the kind that Dean definitely didn't want to pass up in that department. "I don't doubt you are," she replied with a wry grin. Alison grabbed her drink off the tray and gave Dean another grin. "I'm in 103 B, building B, if you find Baywatch bring it by," she started as she got up and picked up the tray. "If it sucks maybe we'll have to look into those ideas," she offered. "See you around Dean." She stopped to shake off the wrappers off her tray into the garbage and set the tray on top of it before she headed out of the restaurant. |
