The shower, the shower had been absolutely wonderful.
Jenny had just finished drying her hair from the third run through the warm water, thankfully the device had been pretty easy to figure out, pacing about her room to an end even she couldn't understand. There was just so much to experience, really, even in this tiny room. The bed, simple as it might have been, had been greeted with all the joy and excitement she had to muster. It was soft, cushy, warm, inviting even, and the blankets were splendid. Jenny spent a solid hour just curled up in the softness of those blankets with no real desire to move elsewhere. It was like a hug, a great, big, giant, hug. It was like the kind of hug you got after cartwheeling and flipping your way through a laser defense grid.
It left so much time to think, even if most of it was dedicated to that hug, the single best moment of her life thus far. How had she ended up here? That part, she still wasn't quite so clear on. Stole a shuttle, right that part checked out. She remembered that. She remembered taking off into space, all set to wander the stars, see worlds, save lives, and get a new pair of running shoes. She remembered being out there, among the stars, watching with wild amazement as everything, the whole of the universe stretched out in front of her. Right, she remembered that too. The she remembered less stars, and then less, and less and less, until finally..nothing. The whole night sky was black, empty, void. Jenny remembered the uneasy feeling that had washed over her in those final moments.
That was it though. No memory of pain, no memory of suffering or anything like that. Just silence and blackness. The next things she remembered was hours ago. Bright light, sun light she imagined, bright light and this room. No panic though, no fear, she didn't have any need for those kind of things, and had never really learned them since. Danger was exciting, new things were exciting, never mind crashing head long into...whatever was on the other side of that door! What difference did it make! Who cared?! Not Jenny! Not today!
Jenny bolted from the cocoon of warmth and cotton, military issue boots thumping down against the floor. She paused, only for a moment, to straighten up her hair, had to keep the ponytail all straight and whatnot. Blond hair was given a bit of a toss, left first, then right, before she bounced on her toes. An ear to ear smile was given. This, THIS was exciting! Who knew what could be out that door! It could have been anything, anything at all! It could have been great fields full of trees, or an ocean! It could have been....it could have ...could have been....anything at all! Shirt was given one dusting with a hands as the chirp of excitement parted her lips.
She stopped, only to poke at the computer. A map, layout, there had to be something. Some sort of guideline, places to go, people to see, and direction was always the key to victory -- or at least something exciting -- if only Father could see her now. She peered at the screen, curious just what all this was on about...messages! She had messages! Speedy fingers flew over the keys with childish impatience. There were some very interesting things people had to say, and besides, she was new. Jenny couldn't afford to turn down courtesy
Communication? Communication was great but so was getting out that door! She absolutely HAD to know what was on the other side. Leather clad legs sent her screaming out of the chair, knocking it backwards to the floor as she B-lined for the door. Hands reached out, frantically gripping and tugging at the handle only to thrust herself out in the hallway. She was a wild blur of excitement really ready to take on the world, which her expression told she expected to be a might bit bigger, and here was her first big choice!
Head jerked first to one side, then to the other. The gesture was repeated twice before hands were cocked against her hips in indecision. After another look? Her right hand would move to push a clenched fist against her lips. This, was a remarkably big decision, one she even let herself speak out loud.
"...Left.." Her gaze followed suit. "Or Right." And again..
