When Dean Winchester decided to become a stop on the Children Ward's underground railroad wasn't exactly clear, but with nothing important to do in this place it'd given him plenty of time to think about Astor and her problem. It wasn't anytime soon that he was about to forget about the look of disappointment that Astor had given him when he'd insisted on turning her into the Children's Ward instead of letting her sleep in the arcade and try to make it on her own. He wasn't a sucker. Hell, he was a conman himself when the occasion called for it - he knew when someone was trying to manipulate him - and there was no denying that the girl had looked and sounded sincere when she'd talked about the things that had gone on inside the Ward. It wasn't exactly torture, but it was enough for her to know that it wasn't normal. Besides, Dean was starting to feel the confines of the compound closing in on him. He'd never exactly been claustrophobic but he was starting to feel that way now as each day passed and neither he or Sam had any idea why they were there or why people from different timelines were coming in. He wanted to assume that his Deal was off as long as they were stuck in this place, but there was no way of being sure and he felt the clock counting down. He should be saving people, hunting things - not stuck in this place twiddling his thumbs and enjoying the scenery, even if the scenery was pretty impressive.
In the end it was sheer frustration and the idea that Astor was about the closest person in need of help that he'd met so far that spurred him to the Children's Ward around three o'clock that afternoon. He knew that he should wait until he had asked Sam or Jo for some backup, but he was half afraid Sam or both would try to talk him out of it. Not to mention that the Ward seemed to operate on a punishment incentive, he wasn't sure if turning her in last night might have gotten her into even more trouble with the authorities. All things considered it was not a well thought out plan. It was risky at best and he hadn't taken the time to make a decent plan B before he'd put it into action. Probaby not his best moment, but he felt like this was one job that was best kept simple and efficient. Less people meant less chance of screw up, not to mention less people going down if it failed. It was practically kidnapping, in a way, not that Dean liked to think of it that way. The kid wasn't going to stop until she got out, he could see that much, the least he could do was give her a little help before things got out of hand. Luckily the official he'd spoken too yesterday didn't seem to be on playground duty as he made his way through the crowds of kids and parents picking them up. His first thought was just to get her and walk out, but it was clear that they were keeping a closer eye on her and he was instructed that he'd have to sign her out before she could leave. Which he did, as Mr. Robert Plant, his only disguise being a bulky jacket with a turned up collar he'd found in the laundry facility. Not the best protection against the cameras, but better than nothing. There'd been a moment when he'd thought that she might not come with him after all, but that had passed quickly and moment later they were walking out of the Children's Ward gates, each sporting matching wristbands.
All things considered it'd gone smoother than he'd hoped. They had a couple of hours to plan their next move at least. After that it was a matter of explaining the seriousness of the situation to Astor, who seemed all too willing to stay out of the Children's Ward no matter what it took, and then there was only one piece left to fall into place.
"Just wait here," he said, nodding for Astor to stay in the living room as he turned to look at the bathroom door and then back at her. "Someone comes to the door I want you to get under the bed," he said. "Crawl as far back into the corner as you can, okay?"
He sighed and shook his head slightly before moving to the bathroom door. He knocked once before entering and crossing to the adjoining door to Rose's apartment. He knocked loudly, waiting a minute for an answer before opening the door a crack. "Hey, Rose?" He called out. "Can I talk to you for a second? I've got something to show you."
