In the time Booth was gone Brennan hadn't moved much. She finished her beer and just curled up on the couch, staring at nothing as her mind whirred. It was going through everything she knew about animals who had spontaneously changed their gender when there was a population problem and anything she knew about genetic mutation. None of it even came close to explaining what had happened to her. She was at a loss. And she was never at a loss. It was frustrating beyond belief.
And then her mind turned to Booth and how this could change things between them forever if she were stuck like this. Would he treat her the same? Would he eventually find the whole thing too strange? Would she forever regret saying no to him when she had the chance to have a relationship, now that the choice to take it back was out of her hands entirely? Would she now be considered a homosexual? Women were attractive to her, but never in a sexual way.
She heard Booth knock and let himself in but she didn't move for a moment. He was really trying hard to make this as okay as it could be and she was grateful. She sat up on the couch and tried to give him a smile as she reached for the clothes he brought.
"Thanks, Booth," she said and had the urge to hug him, but then frowned, figuring that it would be too weird for him. Instead she stamped down the need and turned to go into her room and put on his clothes.
