Buffy was already stepping back toward the door as Spike came toward her. She wasn't sure what he would do. The last time he got his soul, he was loony tune and it confused her and kind of frightened her so she wasn't sure what he was capable of right now. When he came close, she could see the tears in his eyes, barely and she swallowed hard and braced herself. She didn't push him away. She couldn't bring herself to do it. Not right now. She was still all welled up with emotions from everything that had happened the day before, the way she admitted that she loved him, but he took it as something completely different. Like she was trying to make his decision easier for him. She didn't know. She just knew that it felt like the right thing to say in that moment because despite everything that they had gone through, Spike had been a constant in her life, in her sister's life. He put the two of them before everyone else and it wasn't a surprise that he would sacrifice himself to save them and well, the world.
She felt his lips against hers and for a minute, she got lost in everything that she had ultimately denied herself of. She pushed him away and kept him at arms length for so long. She had her reasons, but in the past few months they had grown closer and she had started to trust him again.
It's just now, this wasn't him. It was, but it wasn't, but they were like, the same person. It was confusing but Buffy felt it all the same. She still cared and she was worried about him and what was done to him.
Buffy's hands automatically touched his arms, holding onto him, even though he had pulled away from her.
"I'm here. It's okay, Spike," she whispered in the darkness and she couldn't help but feel emotional because this was just something else. "I thought I'd never see you again." It was a small confession, but there was emotion behind it, it showed that she cared.
"What happened to you? You said that you never came to Sunnydale, but ..." When he looked at her, she still felt it. That fire that was behind his eyes and she had to look away. It was so intense and right now, she just wanted the facts. She wanted to know what the hell was going on. She wanted to know everything.
