Damien followed her toward the other shelves. Now they were getting somewhere. He listened to her speaking about the other things concerning Hawthorne as they looked at the other works about him. He was quite impressed. Like him, Cady also had great knowledge of things. He took a few of the books that had caught his eye, this plus the first two would be enough to keep him busy for a time.
"Yes," he said with a nod, "I'll probably check out the customs house very soon. I'm not sure if what I learn of him will get us any closer to leaving this place... although I sort of like the town. If I hadn't come here, I'd have never learned I had other family." He paused a moment, another thought occurring to him. "You know... the three of us are only the children of Lucifer that we currently know about. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a few more of us." He wondered if any of them would show up here. Now that would be a very interesting reunion.
He heard her question and opened his mouth to speak, but paused momentarily. It was an important question. One he thought he knew the answer to. Perhaps had for some time, but now he wasn't certain. "Am I evil," he spoke, sounding more like a question in itself, asking himself more than any other person. "I'm.. not entirely sure. I know I have a.. well, a darkness in me. Could be part of what we are. And this power, least for me, can be unpredictable. Chaos. Pure chaos. When we use it, I'm not fully sure what will happen, mostly a general idea and that it will be dangerous. But say someone threatens my life, and they meet a bad end? Can't say I'd miss them. I think most of the people who failed to kill me and died, weren't exactly innocent themselves. Though to be fair, most of the accidents happened without my knowledge. It's like this dark cloud. I go places, and if there's a threat to me, stuff happens. I didn't learn to control that until some years later, and even then it's like trying to hold on to a wild lion on a leash."
He continued. "I don't feel evil. No. For me, the Antichrist gig feels more like a job. One with a lot of perks. I mean, if you tell someone they can have a purpose, and wealth, power, to live like a king? And that nations will praise their name, that the world may even call you their messiah? Can't imagine too many of the saying no to that. To be honest, I'm not quite on board with blowing up the world. I like the.. you know, the fun side. The having a good house and people working for you type deal. The money, and having your name on a door or building. Heh, I even have a statue of me in my company's front courtyard lot. I can't say I'm evil myself, nor you, but we have the choice to use our powers for good or evil." And he did have other powers, such as self-healing from injuries or wounds. He could also probably induce healing in another person, partly by sharing his regenerative attributes through touch. And hey, maybe even changing water to another liquid. Though he had yet to test those other parts of it. He definitely had time now, since there wasn't anyone after him anymore. One of the good things about being stuck here, he supposed.
