Cady didn't know what else to say. Damien's story was a sad one. And while Cady had grown up with an absentee father, she couldn't complain about her treatment growing up. Sure, her mom was a bit of a flake and she liked her liquor but she always put Cady's needs first. They lived a decent little life and they were fine and they were close. Cady's mother would never hurt her.
"No. My mom definitely never tried to kill me. She had a few sketchy boyfriends but none of them ever touched me either." She shrugged. "We were actually pretty normal. We never talked about it. She never acknowledged it except a couple times, usually if she had been drinking, she would talk about him being my dad. I guessed when weird stuff happened to me all the time."
She grabbed a broom from behind the counter and swept up the broken glass from the light bulb overhead. She would forget about it in a few minutes. Cady survived by not over-analyzing her bizarre experiences in life.
"I'm sorry about your foster family. I'm going to be a good sister to you. I'll buy you beer and we can watch movies and meet for breakfast. I won't try and kill you. Promise."
Cady had never tried to kill anyone. Whether anyone had accidentally died around her or not... Well, that was another story.
