Cady arched a brow, wondering if she could do what Damien had just done with her coworker. Compulsion. Wasn't that what they called it? What the vampires did to people? Cady wasn't sure. She was hardly an expert on vampires or really anything at all. She had never even bothered to get to know her own abilities. She would rather live in denial.
"People still read books. Isn't that crazy?" she asked him. It wasn't exactly Cady's number one dream in life to work at a small book store but it wasn't so bad. She could read on her downtime and there was a lot of down time. Most people didn't read books actually. Most people read from their Kindles or on the internet. The only reason Cady even read books now was because she worked in the store. It paid the bills, so she kept going back.
"You should visit more often. We should, I don't know, do a better job of getting to know each other. We should do brother-sister things, right? I don't really know what those things are but we should do them."
She gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry, I'm not used to the whole family thing. My father- our father, he wasn't in my life really and so it was just me and my mom. She didn't have any family so it was just us. And I love my mom but she's a little out there."
