Yes, Elena thought. She had finally gotten through to the broken girl who shared her face. Amara wasn't just the original doppelganger but Elena's ancestor. They were family. Though she would have happily pushed Katherine over the edge of the building, she truly didn't want anything bad to happen to Amara. But then the girl slipped. Luckily for all involved, Elena had super speed and quickly managed to pull the girl onto the roof.
But then Silas had to show up. One minute Elena had a shaking crying girl in her arms and the next she was being told not to move. She couldn't tell if he had used his super compulsion on her or not but because she was interested in keeping peace and nothing more, she stayed exactly as she was, half sprawled out on the roof. She did let Amara go so that she could reunite with Silas if she wanted to and Elena suspected that she did. She hoped that she did. Because all of this depended completely on their love being stronger than everyone thought it was.
Maybe it wasn't a perfect comparison to her and Damon but it was a good enough one. Elena had been so worried about codependence after her talk with Bonnie but then she had talked to Stefan and thought about it. Then she had seen Damon upset and scared and angry about Silas's reemergence into their lives. Sometimes love could just be enough and Elena was sad for her best friend who had never experienced love like that but Elena knew what it felt like.
"It's okay," she whispered to Amara. But she doubted that Amara was paying any attention to her now that Silas was in the near vicinity. She felt a bit like a voyeur intruding on this private moment but her presence had been completely necessary only a mere few seconds ago.
