"Protect me?!" she exclaimed and then let out a dry laugh. "How can he protect me from himself? How can he protect me if I don't even know what's going on? How can I protect myself? God, Roy, I'm like sitting bait between you two."
She saw another look pass over his face and she sighed and sank deeper into the sofa. Her head was in her hand but she was still balancing her drink in the other. She tipped her head back and took a long swallow, hoping the burn of expensive booze would help take away the bad taste in her mouth.
"Everyone knows. So I just found out when everyone did? I'm his sister. I'm not just like everyone else. That's not fair, Roy and you know it. How long did you keep it from me?"
She looked up, moving her hand away so she could focus her hazel eyes on him clearly. Oliver wasn't here to be angry with and she didn't want to kill the messenger. But Roy had been keeping secrets from her back home too. How long had he kept this secret from her? How long had he known about Oliver and never told her? She didn't even want to ask because she was afraid of the answer.
"You know what the screwed up part of all this is? I just want you. You make things better, being around you, even when you're a stubborn ass which is pretty much all the time. But we're not even together anymore, are we? Do you even love me anymore?"
Because if the answer was no, she wanted him to leave. She didn't need to get any more answers from him. She could go to Laurel for those.
