Jane Foster was an entity unto her own. She was brilliant and determined, hard-working, and didn’t know the word no. In fact, when someone told Jane no, she took that as a challenge to do that exact thing. Thor’s life as an Avenger was a harrowing thing, yes, but Thor had been destined to be a warrior to the extent that in some stories, he stopped the end of the world from happening. Jane was a scientist--the most brilliant scientist in all of the Nine Realms. And even though she’d never been trained in any sort of fighting, that hadn’t stopped her from running over Thor with a car (twice, to his embarrassment) or punching Loki in the face.
Still, Salem was dangerous, and it seemed that Jane would continue to put herself in harm’s way. Thor? Wouldn’t stop her. He loved Jane more than anything else in the Nine Realms, and would have gladly and easily given up his life to save hers, but Jane didn’t want that. She didn’t want to be protected. She wanted to be able to defend herself when her wits and intelligence couldn’t get her out of a problem. Who was Thor to tell her no?
Besides, she did look adorable eyeing the menagerie of weapons that Thor had amassed from...who knew where. Some questions were better left unasked.
“Jane, my most beloved, brightest star in the multiverse, I humbly request that you punch me in the face.”
