Who: Jake and Gabriel What: Psychic and Witch vs My Anaconda Don't~ Snake When: Bendy to the weekend Where: Forest/outskirts of the town before the barrier Warnings: Language, violence
Jake really didn’t expect to be run into...whatever it was that was chasing him down. It wasn’t any kind of creature he had ever encountered as witch or a witch hunter. This thing was old. It felt almost ancient and Jake didn’t know how to defeat it. It was some sort of snake-thing with arms.
It somehow had the ability to sense where Jake was so there was no point in hiding. All Jake could do was run, to maybe figure out a way to distract it so that it wouldn’t get him. There was no way that Jake could lead the thing back to the others. Faye was pregnant and warning them was a no go either since Jake had lost his phone in the scuffle.
He had stumbled into the woods as a means to use the darkness as a method to hide. Jake didn’t know shit when it came to a snake’s physiology. He didn’t realize that the snake could literally sense his heat signature which is why it could track him so easily. The moment Jake tried to catch his breath was the moment he heard it again, its hissing loud and its movement fast as Jake had no choice but to run again.
In his mind Jake tried to think up a number of different spells. He knew he could go on the offensive but would that even work? Jake ducked behind a tree again, his eyes looking for which direction he needed to run. It was here that Jake saw someone, another figure making their way through the forest - a jogger, maybe? Jake couldn’t make out their face but he saw how they were pretty much running in their general direction.
“Shit,” Jake didn’t know where the snake was coming from. He thought that he heard a crack behind him but was that the snake? Did it decide to go after the newcomer?
Gabriel was able to get off of work a little earlier because the backroom was empty. They were awaiting new shipments or deliveries or however the hell it was done. Gabriel just showed up to work most mornings and new boxes were in the room in the back, he didn't ask questions. He didn't care to, not at this point. He had been in Salem for months and knew that whatever questions he did have, they would never be answered. It was just how it was here. Gabriel was still pissed off about the witch hunters or whatever the hell they wanted to call themselves. Because they weren't witch hunters and most if not all of who they kidnapped weren't even fucking witches.
"What the fuck?" The question was out loud as he saw something slithering across the street. It looked like a giant snake and Gabriel had seen a lot in Salem. But a giant snake wasn't one of them. There was a first time for everything though. He didn't see who or what the snake was going after though but he noticed that whatever it was chasing headed toward the woods, so of course, Gabriel headed that way because he was curious. He shouldn't have been. He hated the hellhounds. He hated nearly everything so this should have been no different.
He also watched as someone went running toward the woods, he assumed, after the snake only to come running back out and Gabriel couldn't help but smirk. He had to see what was going on. He closed off the web for now. The last thing he wanted to hear was worry or annoyance from Kaitlyn. But come on, it was a giant snake. Gabriel wasn't exactly afraid of it. He was more curious than anything.
Gabriel's boots crunched against the woodland floor, catching the attention of it. It was dark, but Gabriel saw its eyes and suddenly, the eyes were moving closer. There was no connecting to it, he wasn't Anna and as much as he would have wanted to try out her power, he didn't want to do it when there could be a possible chance it wouldn't work and then he'd fucking die. So Gabriel stepped back, but reached in his back pocket, pulling out his knife. He rarely used it. He normally didn't need to until he couldn't find a box cutter at work, but he figured it would do the trick.
Was this guy an idiot? Jake was crouched but he watched closely, his eyes on the newcomer - Stefan? Jake looked a little confused. Why was Stefan out here? Jake could hear the snake. It was hiding underneath some of the bushes but it wasn’t going to be hiding for long. Stefan was an easy target and Jake felt his heart racing. When the snake did as Jake predicted he cursed. It had decided to put all of its attention on his boss. Jake couldn’t let that happen.
“Linea ignis,” Jake focused on the ground, his eyes creating an imaginary line in his head and the moment he focused a wall of fire erupted from that imagined line, blocking the snake from actually slithering over to do what it wanted which was probably to eat Stefan whole. Jake moved from behind the tree and the snaked hissed madly, its jaw unhinging.
The fire was burning leaves and it was growing. Jake knew that he couldn’t start a forest fire but he couldn’t let Stefan get hurt, either. Jake focused on the fire and did his best to keep it contained but knew that the snake was going to come after him in a second.
“Get out of here!” Jake yelled, his hand rising as he took a step back the moment the snake turned away from who he thought was Stefan. Funny how it wasn’t even him to begin with.
The snake was coming toward Gabriel and Gabriel’s eyes got a little wide because while the snake wasn’t huge, it was still big. He wasn’t sure a knife would actually kill it, but he was going to try. But as the snake came closer, a wall of fire literally went up and Gabriel scowled. What the hell. That’s when he saw the guy who the snake was after in the first place and who had led it to the woods. There was no way to get to him to even try and help him because of the fire and the snake was turning around to go back after him.
If the witch could make a line of fire, why not set the fucking snake on fire? That was the question inside of Gabriel’s mind as it moved, slithering its way back to the guy and Gabriel grumbled. As much as Gabriel could have just walked away, he didn’t want to. Not because he wanted to kill the snake, but because this guy was about to get eaten and as much as Gabriel ‘didn’t’ care, he cared.
Kaitlyn was going to kill him. He knew this, but luckily for him, he had blocked the web and her for that very reason. He didn’t want her yelling at him, especially as he took a head start and ran right toward the fire, jumping through it. Luckily, it was cold out, everything had a damp wetness to it, but his hoodie that he was wearing was caught and he quickly took that off, tossing it on the ground. He stomped at it with his boot and looked over. This guy was going to get himself killed. Fuck, Gabriel might had even gotten himself killed but he always had a way of looking out for himself. If it was between him and this guy, Gabriel would come out of this.
He aimed, throwing the knife and the blade stabbed the snake just like he had wanted it to. The snake looked as though it got bigger and hissed loudly before turning around. Gabriel smirked. That’s right. Gabriel showed no fear despite not having a weapon anymore and as the snake started moving once again, Gabriel stayed where he was until he couldn’t anymore.
“Set the fucking snake on fire!” Gabriel called out. Fucking witches.
Okay. That wasn’t Stefan but what the fuck? Jake remembered then that for some reason Stefan had a whole bunch of copies running around. The person who worked at the mayor’s office looked like Stefan and the guy at Wicked Good books also looked like him, too. It was so weird. Jake didn’t have time to ask who this really was because the snake was roaring, hissing loudly. The guy had to go and piss it off by stabbing the damn thing. Seriously? Jake let the fire die down because he had something else in mind.
“You’re going to have to distract it,” Jake said, his hands coming together because he needed to focus not only his mind but his body. Jake’s hands curled, as if he was holding something inside of his palms but that was going to be part of the magic that he was going to produce. It just took time. Jake couldn’t concentrate his magic into one spot in a few seconds. He needed at least a minute or two or else he wasn’t going to be able to build much power.
“Concinnatio,” Jake said, a faint glow produced from inside of his enclosed hands but it was faint. However, it was enough to grab the snake’s attention who could tell that something was going to happen. “I said distract it!”
Gabriel said nothing, just scoffed when the guy told him that he said to distract it. Whatever he was doing, it was grabbing the snake’s attention and Gabriel kicked the side of the snake hard. The snake hissed and looked back at him. Fuck. Stepping back, his boot stepped on a tree branch and Gabriel leaned down, picking it up as the snake slowly made its way toward Gabriel. “Come on,” he whispered to himself and quickly, the snake took off toward him.
Shit. Gabriel couldn’t move past enough because the snake was nearly right in front of him, its mouth wide, fangs in clear view and Gabriel jammed the tree branch in its mouth, stabbing the inside and something definitely ripped because something came squirting out and Gabriel ducked, luckily not getting whatever the fuck that was all over him.
“Are you done yet?” Gabriel called out as the snake went wild beside him, trying to get the branch out of its mouth.
“You’re so annoying,” Jake grunted, his concentration wavering but the pressure in his hands, the glowing that was now bursting with light, Jake was ready to unleash it all. Jake had a good affinity with fire but with fire came light. Light magic was pure magic. It came from the root. A person’s soul. The stronger the soul the stronger the magic. Jake remembered reading some spells from his family’s book of shadows. This spell was destructive but it also took a greater toll on the caster.
Because he was one of the six of the Chance Harbor coven his family lineage was strong, which meant that his magic wasn’t just average. When Jake opened his hands a brilliant shine was released but instead of being shot towards the snake it swirled into the ground, circles made, twisting and forming into a complex sigil.
“Leancea in caelis” The moment the words left Jake lips he released the sigil and in one shining arc a spear made of pure, magical energy rose from the ground, piercing straight through the snake. It radiated brightly and then just as fast as it was unleashed the light vanished.
Gabriel watched as the magical light spear took out the snake. As the light vanished the snake let out a loud noise before dropping to the ground and then there was nothing. “That’s it?” Gabriel asked, looking from the snake to the guy. Gabriel, as usual, wasn’t impressed. So what? The snake was dead and the witch had killed it like he could have killed it ten minutes ago and none of this would have happened. Gabriel also wouldn’t have lost a hoodie. It was burned up on the ground and that was when Gabriel felt the night chill.
“You should have just done that from the beginning,” Gabriel complained, looking at the guy who looked incredibly pale now. “What? Did you use all of your energy on that spell?” He shouldn’t have been out there. He should have been at home by now. Kaitlyn was probably wondering where the fuck he was at this point. Either way, the guy didn’t look good and Gabriel couldn’t just leave him. Kaitlyn would understand and probably be a little proud of him that he was helping someone else. Or trying to anyway.
The spell did take a lot out of Jake. It took enough that Jake actually dropped to one knee, his hand touching the ground to balance himself so that he didn’t just fall over. Was this asshole still talking? Jake didn’t need his help. Maybe if this Stefan-lookalike never came along Jake would have figured out a way to kill the snake without him. Did he expect some kind of thank you? Jake glared, his head hanging low when he asked if he had any energy left. The answer was no but this guy didn’t need to know that.
“How about you fuck off now?” Jake asked, his head lifting as he tilted his head. If this stranger wanted to be an asshole then Jake knew how to be one right back. “Because I have enough magic left in me to kick your ass.” Jake couldn’t actually lift a finger let alone do anymore magic. He was spent for the night but he hoped that his warning would get through whoever this dickhead was.
Gabriel could only smile because he knew damn well this guy was juiced out. If it wasn't for the fact that Gabriel could see it plain as day, he could also feel it. The guy had nothing and if Gabriel were to connect with his mind, the guy would be dead within seconds. Luckily for Gabriel he had already fed on energy the night before, so for the moment he was content. And since Gabriel liked to push buttons, he walked over to the guy and crouched down in front of him.
"Yeah? Why don't you kick my ass then tough guy?" There was that smirk again because he knew that this guy wasn't going to do shit to him. Whatever strength he had before, it was gone. Gabriel wasn't worried. And Gabriel made a face regarding that thought as he stood up, only to look down at him. He looked like shit and Gabriel, while he could leave him behind - he didn't want to.
"Why don't you get over it and call whoever you need to call. I won't leave until they get here."
“I don’t have my phone.” Jake couldn’t get in touch with Faye or anyone else from the circle. They weren’t bound anymore either so it wasn’t like any of them could feel what happened. Jake felt his eyes grow heavy. Shit. He was losing it. He had put too much of his strength into that spell and maybe he had overdone it a bit with the flashy effects. Jake just wanted to make sure that it got done. That the spell was strong enough to kill the snake thing from it ripped them apart.
“Can I borrow your phone? Since, you know, I sort of kept that thing from squirting all over you?” Jake was the one to smile this time, faint but he wasn’t going to let this douchebag have all the fun. Sure, the guy did his part by distracting it but it wasn’t like he did the finishing touch. “And given that you really didn’t do shit. What did you stab it with? A pocket knife?”
Gabriel shifted his gaze back to the guy and reached in his pocket, grabbing his phone. He put the code into the phone to unlock it before handing it to him. No, Gabriel didn’t do the finishing touch, as dramatic as that was. But he did grin a little at the mention of the knife. “Fuck off, it got his attention for what, five seconds?” Gabriel laughed a little as he looked away because the knife didn’t really do shit, but it wasn’t like Gabriel was suped up with magic either. He was a psychic vampire, not a witch.
“You should have just lit it on fire to begin with,” he complained as Jake put in the numbers to the phone. He crossed his arms over his chest as he waited for him to talk to whoever it was he was talking to. Gabriel was just happy he saw the snake up close and personal because seriously when was he ever going to see something like that again?
“So the snake could be on fire when it swallowed your ass?” Jake asked, dialing Faye’s number so that he could call her. It didn’t take him long to explain what happened. She sounded concerned and a little pissed. Jake guessed that’s what happened when a very pregnant Faye Chamberlain was awakened from her beauty sleep. Jake ended the phone call before handing the phone back to his cellular savior because right now that was the only useful thing that was done.
“My girlfriend will be on her way. So, you really don’t have to stick around.” Jake sat down, literally, he didn’t think he could stand so right now the sidewalk felt just right. Jake watched as the guy started to walk off. It felt a little wrong to not at least give his name.
“And by the way? My name is Jake.” Jake smirked, his head shaking. “Or you can just stick with asshole if you have a hard time remembering.”
Gabriel didn’t answer him anymore because Gabriel didn’t care enough to stand here and argue over the snake. It was dead and gone at this point. Gabriel waited to get his phone back and he pushed it back in his pocked. As he sat down, Gabriel looked around, making sure that he could have possibly been safe, which was a little laughable considering the dead snake not that far from them but whatever. Gabriel started walking off, back in the direction that he was going so he could head home when he heard ‘Jake’ calling out.
“Great,” he said, turning around to look at him. Gabriel still hadn’t given out his name and he wasn’t going to. It wasn’t like they were going to be friends.
“Why don’t you sleep it off, Jake, you look like shit,” he said and smiled before turning back around and heading home.
