Xavin/Dawn
Dawn couldn't believe her good luck. Her poor sister was just bereaved enough to let her little charge slip out to a party with a boy (boy?) and didn't make her explain anything. Seriously. Dawn didn't even have to tell Buffy where she was going though she was sure her sister could make an inference based on Dawn's outfit. Buffy didn't say anything about the dress either which made Dawn wonder if Buffy thought she was going to up and disappear any day now.
Then she realized that was exactly what Buffy thought. Why wouldn't she? Spike had left her. Willow had left her. Dawn had already left her and maybe more than once. Obviously, Buffy would think that Dawn was going to vanish at any minute. It was totally why she was afraid to get close to Seth too. It all made so much sense. Buffy never quite got The Slayer thing right because The Slayer was supposed to walk alone. There was nothing in the whole spiel about The Slayer and her ultra hipster posse. Now Buffy really did walk alone and Dawn wasn't sure what to do about that.
For now she was going to concentrate on her life. Xavin was cute, Xavin was interesting and totally weird, just like her. Dawn didn't really know how to date anyone so she figured she would try it out on someone who was totally clueless and wouldn't notice that she was too. And Dawn had to admit, the variety was enticing. She hadn't exactly pinpointed her sexuality yet. It was hard to do that when you were saving the world every other week.
Xavin looked hot. She liked Xavin in both forms and didn't mind either way because either way she was attracted. Tonight he looked really good all dressed up like that and holding a red rose. And here she thought he was clueless.
"Hi." She smiled at him when she realized the way that he was staring at her. It was strange because nobody ever looked at Dawn Summers that way. It was all about Buffy. Buffy was cool. Buffy was hot. Buffy was all kinds of different temperatures and then there was her dorky little sister. But Dawn was all grown up and ready to be her own woman out of the shadow of The Slayer. But then again, kind of always in it. Watcherly duty and all.
"I'm glad you came. You look really good." She felt her cheeks flush because was she supposed to say that or try and play it cool? Not that Dawn knew how to play it cool or really be cool in any capacity at all.
