"If everyone else is good with it, so am I. I think after having a few days to recover, they'll be ready for it."
Not that Steve knew what a few days really equalled. Even when they found a way to save the others, there would be unrest in the town. Once he hunters were without prisoners, Steve didn't doubt people would turn on them. Especially since they were ready to burn kids at the stake. There was a chance there wouldn't be an opportunity for the team to actually cut loose for a while, but Steve wasn't going to say something like that when Sam was clearly down in the dumps. Steve wasn't exactly a party person, but he was definitely a spend time with the team when he could kind of a person. Just cause he was low-key didn't mean he wasn't going to support Sam in doing something that could help morale. If Sam wanted to throw a party, Steve would be there.
"And for the record, that didn't sound like complaining to me," Steve said in earnest, letting go of Sam before giving the side of his arm a pat, careful not to turn a friendly pat into having to pick Sam up off the floor. After he grabbed another coffee mug out of the cupboard and passed it to Sam, he he picked his own mug back up and turned to go back to leaning against the counter to face his friend. "This place does take a lot out of everyone."
And yeah. Steve knew it. He hadn't even been in Salem for a month when the tornado hit. He thought he lost Wanda that day. If Bucky hadn't shown up when he did, he probably wouldn't have been alive to have another conversation with Sam.
After taking a sip of his coffee, Steve reached back over the counter and pulled two energy bars from the box tucked away by the toaster.
"How much sleep did you get?" It was a pretty good attempt at being casual, especially since subtly wasn't always Steve's strong suit. It wasn't like he was trying to mom Sam, but.. well, maybe he was. Sam was one of his best friends, and the last thing he wanted was for something going on that wouldn't have happened if he wasn't running himself into the ground.
