Rachel could only watch in horror as the girl ran, trying to find a safe space, trying to find the people who loved her and cared about only to be pulled back, kicking and screaming. God, she couldn't watch this. She couldn't - she had done this - all of this. It didn't matter what anyone would think about Rachel because nobody could be more disappointed than she was in herself. This was horrible and Rachel shed her own tears as she stepped back, trying to get away from the crowd who wanted nothing more than to see the girl get locked up and key thrown away along with it.
Her heart hurt and now she had to go back as if nothing happened. As if she didn't put another life in danger. It was supposed to be her. She didn't understand where these people, with their pointing fingers and loud voices were getting off with taking people away. Was that even allowed? It sounded as though it could be against the law, except there wasn't any law enforcement around to enforce. It was utter chaos.
Looking back, Rachel could see her being taken away and soon enough the crowds started to scatter, going back to their lives, their afternoon plans. She wanted to tell Finn so badly but what could he do? It wasn't as if Rachel wanted him to be harmed but someone had to save that girl.
Pulling out her phone, she shook her head and then put it away. Turning, she nearly jumped when an older woman was right there, staring at her, giving her the cruelest look.
"Coward!" She shrieked and it was Rachel who was on the receiving end of a large, shiny black purse that nearly knocked the petite brunette over. The old woman wobbled off down the sidewalk and Rachel took in a breath.
She was a coward. She was horrible. The things that she had done her entire life to be something, to be special had led her to this moment. And she was so ashamed.
