There didn’t seem to be any positive solution to all of this. There was no taking away the pain or the knowledge of what happened. Of what was going to end up happening the moment that Laurel vanished from Salem. Oliver’s feelings toward that happening were broken. He hated the idea of Laurel leaving him because she would be leaving for her own death. There was no saving her from that. Oliver didn’t have that kind of power. The only thing keeping Laurel alive was literally Salem.
Darhk was to blame for everything but Oliver knew it wasn’t that simple. Oliver had his chance to kill the man. Oliver could have saved Laurel from her fate and he didn’t. All he needed was that push and if Oliver had known then maybe things would be different. Maybe the team would still be together if the Black Canary was still out there, fighting the good fight for Star City.
“You do that here,” Oliver said, trying his best to bring out something good. “You wake up every day wanting to make a difference. You go out there as this city’s DA and you go out at night wanting to do the same thing. You’re fighting on both fronts and it doesn’t matter what happens back home. Right now what matters is that you’re here. You’re here with me.”
Oliver brought his hand over Laurel’s, their fingers lacing as he held her hand, giving it a small squeeze. “I’ve been through so much since you’ve been gone. There are things that I wish you were there for. There are times where I wish you would just come back but you don’t and I live with that every day. I don’t want to live with that here. Not when I have you back in my life.”
Because he know how long that could last. It could last forever or it could last as little as days or weeks. Salem didn’t seem to care about the smaller things. Not about love or need. Oliver knew that the witches would be spinning their roulette to see who would be next to leave.
