Who: Jake (appearance by Toby) and open to anyone working at the police department or anyone really What: A body is found. She's ripped apart. When: New Years Day. Where: The edge of the woods. Warnings: Just another day at the office.
New years was definitely something. He and Aria spent the night together. It was quiet and it was just the two of them, watching the ball drop. Which was odd and he was almost envious because the people who were in Times Square weren't stuck in a dimension - stuck in a city. At least he didn't think so. He was incredibly out of the loop when it came to that science fiction ... that didn't seem to be fiction at all because they were experiencing it. It was a miracle though that he had managed to get the night off. The only downside was that he was on call. Which that was always the case if he was honest, but he was just hoping that for one night, it could be a quiet night because he didn't want to leave Aria's side.
He managed to make it the entire night until his phone started buzzing at around 8am. Aria was wrapped up against him and she was warm and fuck - he didn't want to leave the bed. But he reached over, grabbing his phone, seeing the text. A body was found. Or - pieces of a body. Sitting up then, he looked at his phone and knew that he needed to get down there. The body, or pieces were found on the edge of the newly arrived woods that had just managed to show up. Creepy, but it wasn't unlike Salem. He set the phone down and leaned over, kissing Aria's temple.
"I gotta go in, call me when you get up," he said. Which was a usual departure greeting between them. He always had to leave and he hated it, but it was his job and he loved his job. She seemed to understand and she was hardly alone. Which made him feel better. He quickly showered, got himself dressed and he left.
What he walked in on looked like a mad house. There was yellow tape lining the area in which the body was found. Or lack there of. There was a woman who had a blanket wrapped around her, talking to investigators and Jake quickly found Toby, who looked a little distraught but sometimes, that just seemed to be Toby's natural expression.
"What the hell happened?" Jake asked, catching his attention.
Toby looked over at the body. They were waiting for the medical examiner to arrive.
"She was torn apart," Toby said, his voice low. There were other things on his mind, things from home and he - he hadn't talked about it. He just woke up and those memories were there. It was odd and he didn't know how to feel but it wasn't as if he could feel anything at all. He had a job to do here. "I'm thinking it was a vampire. Or werewolf. There's no way another human did this. Someone who was strong, with fangs, claws." He looked at Jake then, his tone was flat and void of emotion and Jake frowned.
"Are you alright, man? You look a little sick," Jake was concerned but Toby just shook his head.
"I'm fine."
Okay. Jake looked over at the woman who was literally torn apart. He noticed some people running toward the woods and Jake shook his head - "I'll head them off, I'll be back," he said, making his way over so he could stop civilians from seeing anything they might have regretted. No one should have seen this.
"I'm going to need you to move back, this is an active crime scene," Jake said, his arms out, stopping them from coming any further. Just another day in Salem - that's all this was.
