It was still early evening so Serena had just gotten home from an early dinner with a coworker. She was disappointed because her assistant, Cassie Blake, had been sent home almost immediately after accepting the job from Serena. Now Serena was on the hunt for a new assistant and good interested candidates were harder to find than Serena thought they would be.
At the moment, she was sitting in the dim glow of the overhead living room light. Some trashy reality television show and Serena was trying to give herself a pedicure. Normally, she paid other people to do these kinds of things for her but in Salem she had learned how to be a little more self reliant. She was halfway through painting a toenail when Dan started making a ruckus at the door and she slipped and ended up painting her entire toe red. She frowned and sighed before capping the polish and quickly trying to wipe the errant polish away. It wouldn't cooperate and Dan was still screaming at the door like an insane person.
Serena was pissed but she tried to reign it back in. They hadn't spoken in weeks and she had given him no warning before having divorce papers served to him. But it shouldn't have warranted a warning. Serena and Dan were obviously falling apart and had been ever since they arrived in Salem. They weren't working out and it was time to face that like adults.
Or like drunks, as Dan so clearly was at her door. The minute Serena opened the door she could smell the bourbon. He was drunk and now the outburst at the front door made a lot more sense. But if Dan wanted to talk, Serena was willing to. She hadn't expected him to show up drunk to do that.
"Dan, what are you doing here?" Serena asked, exasperated. She didn't want to have this talk with him while he was drunk. She would have much rather waited until he was sober to do it.
She pulled out her phone. "I'm going to call Jenny and ask her to come pick you up. You're drunk."
