Who: Spencer and Edward What: Training When: Bendy times Where: The woods Warnings: Likely none
“I hope you’re ready for a field test because that’s what we’re doing today.” Edward looked at Spencer with a challenging gleam in his eyes. She was doing great with her lessons and she was able to do basic alchemy but it was one thing to do it with him in a controlled environment and entirely another to do it under duress. It was why he took them to the new woods in Salem. It was the perfect place for them to practice bigger transmutations without getting unwanted attention and it wasn’t as easy to maneuver in as the beach was. Along with the alchemy training, Ed had been teaching Spencer how to fight with a staff because he didn’t want her to be overly dependent on alchemy. He wanted her to be able to survive everything Salem had to throw at her because he’d be damned if his only student was taken out right from under him.
“I’m gonna give you a five minute head start to do whatever you need to do then I’m coming in and I won’t hesitate to knock you on your ass. Fair warning.” Ed reached for the bag dangling from his belt and tossed it to Spencer. “There’s a few chalk pieces and a black marker in there so you can draw your transmutation circles.” He wasn’t going to leave her completely defenseless but what he didn’t say was that he was going to go after the chalk and marker and take them from her. Hopefully, she’d figure something out before that happened.
Ed took out his phone and went directly for the timer app, he was getting better with future tech, and hit start. “Go.” He watched Spencer take off into the treeline and kept looking until she finally disappeared from view. This was only the first of many training sessions like this because Ed wasn’t going to let up on Spencer. It was the only way to learn and at least this way, she wasn’t ambushed by someone that would follow through and kill her. Though he was planning a few ambushes of his own, she also needed to learn how to deal with surprise attacks. Izumi would have approved of that.
He watched the timer until it finally reached the five minute mark and then tucked the phone back into his pocket. Ready or not, Spencer was going to have to impress him. Ed headed in the direction Spencer had run to then started to track her down. He looked for fresh footprints in the mud and for any broken branches and disturbed bushes. She knew how to be quiet, he’d give her that, since all he could hear was the chirping of the birds and the rustling from the small animals wandering around.
