Kate was watching Danny carefully. She spent most of her life working through some personal issues that lead her to have far too many hobbies than a girl should—some of them more violent than the others—but she had become rather adept at sniffing out a lie (whether or not that was a hobby was up for debate.) But Kate had been in Danny's shoes. Keeping your superhero identity secret from the bad guys was harder than it sounded; she understood Danny's tactics.
While she leveled him with a look that said, dude, you're not pulling a fast one on me, she certainly didn't call him on it. She'd play along, and then she'd figure out what he was hiding. Maybe he was one of those vampire-werewolf-goblin sorts that just shapeshifted like Skrulls did. Ick, Skrulls.
"Muay thai, huh? I took jiu jitsu awhile back, but I think all the discipline really got to me. I ended up taking boxing. More punching, felt more direct when it came to knocking guys down." Guys, stalkers, bank robbers, aliens from other planets. It was all the same to her. "Then I moved on to staves, or big sticks as you would call them. Bow and arrow. Swords. Swords are awesome," Kate continued. She smirked, wondering if he might be a good opponent to spar with while she was here—Tommy was blindingly fast but uncoordinated and Billy was slow and uncoordinated. Neither worked out to her advantage. And mostly, Tommy just wanted to blow things up.
Kate was not about that. Yet.
She did shrug though and took another swig of her coffee. She needed a refill. She needed at least two more cups. "Abnormal is a good way of thinking about it. I come from a place where everyone puts on costumes and has superpowers. You know, like in the movies. Except it's real and it's super frustrating," Katie said, feeling her own sense of self-worth flutter. She was powerless, having to work her way from the ground up, and be the most skilled archer in the world (next to Clint 'I Have Relationship Issues' Barton), and sometime it frazzled her to know others were just born with it. They didn't have to work as hard. They just had super strength, or telepathy, or... whatever else.
"So, no. I guess it doesn't bother me. I get restless though. I'm used to much more doom and gloom, and Doom, capital D. Nasty piece of work, and the guy decides to go by the name of 'doom', sheesh. Anyway, it's hard to be phased by this stuff. If you keep being shocked by it or unprepared, you'll just... decide to stay inside all the time and let it wreck you. I'd like to be unwrecked."
