This place was so weird. Like a creepy, spooky version of Stepford (as if Stepford wasn't already heebie-jeebie inducing). People had superpowers—not surprising—but the doppelgangers of back home weren't settling her nerves. What would she do if other Avengers showed up and didn't remember her? She could handle Captain America or Tony Stark turning the other cheek to the Young Avengers presence, but she was certain she wouldn't be able to stand a hollow look from Hawkeye. She'd rather not think about it.
But even worse was that Tommy and Billy didn't remember their trip to space, the fight with Mother, and this whole thing which was somewhat, sort of, forgiving Noh-Varr who had captured them forever ago. Kate sort of shrugged it off, felt guilty, and decided there was no good time to talk about the future with them, so why talk about it at all? So instead Kate snagged a bow and quiver from their friendly neighborhood sales clerk, and spent her nights patrolling and trying to get back in the swing of things as a defender of justice (and drinker of copious amounts of caffeine).
Except that was taking most of the night, and now here she was rolling out of bed in the afternoon with a massive headache and an aching body, looking basic in her sweatpants, messy bun, and large sunglasses—when in fact Kate was just feeling lazy af—and showing her face at the local diner. Doing anything that required her to operate heavy machinery (read: a stove and a coffee pot) was out of her comfort zone for the wee hours of... well, one o'clock.
She had walked up to the counter to order a coffee, but then spotted a guy noshing on a heavenly set of biscuits and gravy. The scent was nearly tangible thing, physically dragging her toward his booth. She whistled low at his meal.
"Alright, I need to get whatever you're having." She pointed to the waitress, then to his plate. "And an order of that too, to go!" And she sat at the edge of his booth to wait. "No chairs in the waiting area, mind if I snag this cushion till my meal is ready?" But Kate was already sitting, so it was sort of too late to say no...
