Al listened to them, taking in their worried looks that in turn made him feel afraid again. He'd been overcome with joy at seeing them both when he'd been thought he was alone, but they both looked very worried. Perhaps the situation was a lot worse than they wanted to tell him? He knew Ed and sometimes Winry too liked to try to protect him. He wasn't a baby though, he knew there were terrible things in the world. He'd seen them along with Ed.
"So you've not seen how magic is performed yet? Are there magic users that are part of the hotel people? Some of them have been nice to me so far, but I don't think they were witches. One guy was named Jace and he said he was a police officer." Surely witches wouldn't be police officers?
Money, right. They'd spent a lot of time scrambling for that and Al hated the thought of Ed trying to go to school and work. "I can work too, brother. You can have my money, then you won't have to work so hard." Al didn't need to eat, or clothes, or really anything. Though, a little bag for his phone might be nice since it was still such a delicate thing in his hands. "I want to help." He looked over at Winry, "Maybe I can help you at the mechanic shop. I'm good at sweeping and cleaning up."
"So you're there too? What is it like?" He looked over at Ed again, upset by how sad he was. "If it's bad I don't have to go. I mean, I already know nearly as much as you about alchemy, math, and science. We've read a lot of books and can write well enough for reports. What more do we need?" Al didn't even consider not fitting in or what people might think of him. It'd not been a huge issue while they traveled, not with people to make fun of him at least. They were too busy saving people to be bothered by that.
