Who: Emily and Molly What: Molly's sick and Emily comes over to check on her, but then monsters. When: Set for Sunday Where: Molly's room Warnings: Monster!
While Karolina was at work, Emily saw the message for Molly. She wasn't feeling well and well, Molly meant a lot to Karolina, who now mattered a lot to Emily. Emily hadn't been doing anything productive with her day off. She was tempted to text Dean and see what he was up to because she felt like she was doing nothing and the last time she went off by herself, she nearly got killed if Katherine hadn't saved her. And she didn't want Katherine to save her. She still thought Elena and Katherine were sketchy, although she preferred Katherine. It wasn't by much though. Either way, Emily talked to Molly for a bit, getting a small list together before she finally pulled herself out of bed and got dressed.
The trip to the store wasn't long at all. She got everything that Molly wanted and texted Karolina telling her what she was doing. She just planned to hang out over there for a few hours and make sure that Molly was taken care of until Karolina came over which she was sure her girlfriend was bound to do. Emily couldn't imagine being so young and away from home. They didn't talk about it much - their pasts but they both knew enough and it really just came down to that it was screwed up. Royally. Emily was glad to be out of Rosewood, although her past kind of was here, walking around Salem.
And the past had a way of showing up, right in front of Emily's face.
It was hard to not think of Alison because Emily did worry about her. But Emily knew that Alison would twist and turn those feelings into something much deeper and Emily just - she couldn't do that right now. She couldn't hurt Karolina again because Emily did have those feelings. She would always have those feelings but Emily loved Karolina. She had fun with her and Karolina was different. She wanted this. Alison was like a ghost though, always coming from out of nowhere though.
Her thoughts were pushed back when she found Molly's door. She held onto her canvas bag that Karolina had gotten her so she didn't use plastic or even paper at the store and waited for the girl to open up. When she didn't hear anything - or even hear Molly come to the door, Emily tried the knob and it worked, turning so she could let herself in.
"Molly? It's Em. I'm here," she called out. When she didn't hear anything else, she set the bags down on the counter in the kitchen and walked to Molly's room.
"Hey, Molly," she tapped lightly at her bedroom door, pushing it open.
It was times like these that made her miss her parents. It was hard to admit, but it was true. When she was even younger and wasn't feeling good, her mom was always around to rub her back and take care of her, and now she was just kind of… alone. Karolina was great and all, and Bucky even swung by to make sure she had eaten, but Molly was starting to think that maybe the hole they left in her life was just too big to fill.
Running on barely any sleep with a headache so bad she could cry, miserable wasn’t a word that cut it for Molly. She kind of just wished her bed would swallow her up and never spit her out. Since that wasn’t happening any time soon, she played games on her phone while she waited for Emily. It was really nice of her to offer to bring her sherbert. If anything, it was the first exciting thing that happened to her all day, and it was the first thing she had looked forward to since Bucky said he’d come by to see her. It was a little weird to think about, but Molly kind of wished she knew Emily before, that she had always been part of their little group just like Nico, Gert, and Chase, cause Alex didn’t count even though it bothered her whenever she thought about what happened. Not that she’d wish supervillain parents on anyone, it was just that she liked Emily, and she’d be sad if she went home without her. Karolina would probably be even sadder, but that was too much heavy thinking for a headache.
Molly had turned off her phone for a few minutes and let her head sink back against the pillow. She was finally starting to feel too tired to indulge in any of that weird fluttery panic she got whenever she thought about sleeping. Before she could change her mind about that, she heard her door open. She only startled as much as she had energy, and that wasn’t much. Tiredly, she lifted her head off the pillow and squinted at the door.
“Hey, Em,” Molly smiled, carefully sitting up as she reached to fiddle with her bottle of ibuprofen. “Thanks again for all of this. It’s really cool of you.”
Emily walked into the dark room, seeing Molly on the bed. She was so young and Emily’s heart sank a little because she was here and so far away from home. She and Karolina had talked a little bit about her past but they were more focused on the present. Mainly because how could Emily even talk about her past? How could she tell Karolina everything that had happened. It was bad enough that Alison was here and although Emily … had a thing with Alison, she was also afraid that anytime, anything could happen. Trust was something that was very sacred to Emily and while she cared for Alison, it took so much to actually trust her. She doubted she was alone in that aspect when it came to her friends.
“Is it?” Emily smiled a little and walked into the room, going as far as to sit on the edge of the bed. The room was dark and it wasn’t uncommon because Molly wasn’t feeling well. She didn’t want to pull her out to the living room so Emily planned on making her a bowl of sherbert and she also was going to encourage her to drink some Emergen-C. Maybe it would help her get over this cold she seemed to have.
It was actually nice. Emily loved taking care of people. She loved feeling needed and now that she could actually breathe in Salem and not really have to look over her shoulder, she could take the time to do just that. She and Karolina were in a good place and along with Karolina came Molly, who Emily thought of as Karolina’s sister in a lot of ways. Of course Emily cared about her and her well being and she would do anything to make sure that Molly was taken care of.
“No problem, kiddo,” she smiled a little and glanced over at her. “How are you feeling?”
“Crappy,” Molly answered honestly and without hesitation. Opening the ibuprofen bottle was probably harder than it should have been, but with a little more effort, she got the stupid thing open and shook out three pills, and dropped two back in before setting the third on her nightstand. She gingerly dragged the heels of her hands over her eyes and sighed, but when she peaked out from underneath her hands and saw Emily smile, she smiled back.
“I don’t know, it’s mostly my head. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad ever. I had the flu before and I was yakking everywhere and it was super gross but I never had a headache like this.”
After she picked up and unscrewed her water bottle, she popped the ibuprofen and swallowed it down with a mouthful of water, but not without making a face. It wasn’t much of a face given she was starting to feel like she could barely keep her eyes open, but it was just enough to convey a ‘bleh.’
Slowly, Molly turned to face Emily and pushed herself back against the headboard. She crossed her legs and leaned forward, propping her elbow up on her knee, and her chin in her hand. Once Molly was done looking grossed out, she looked tired, then a little pensive. It wasn’t a really common look for her, but she was too tired to try and grub up as much attention as she could. If Emily was her mom, she might have, but things were different.
“Hey,” she said, frowning. “Can I ask you a weird question?” Not really giving Emily a chance to opt out, Molly continued. “Have you… I don’t know. Had a hard time sleeping? After the whole Freddy thing?”
Emily had a natural motherly instinct and wanted to take care of everyone. She was the weakest link out of her group of friends because she was often gullible and just wanted to see the good in people. It had backfired in her face plenty of times, but it didn’t necessarily deter her. Besides, this was Molly and she cared about her. Karolina cared about her and thought of her as a younger sister so Emily would do everything she could to make sure that Molly was taken care of.
Leaning over, she placed her hand over Molly’s forehead and she was a little warm. The medicine she was about to take should have been able to help her. It would especially help if she was sore. Sitting back down on the bed, she nodded, “Yeah, of course.” Emily frowned though when she asked her about Freddy.
Not so much about Freddy, but the aftermath. Emily did have trouble sleeping if she was by herself. As long as Karolina was beside her, she was okay, because she knew that she wasn’t alone. Emily would stay up and wait for Karolina to come home from work if she was working late, or she’d just go down to the Gulu Gulu and wait for her to get off. But that was only if she wasn’t out with Dean, hunting. Emily was trying to get herself back together and she figured as long as she was hunting and as long as she had Karolina, she’d be okay.
“Um, a little maybe. I guess.” She looked over at Molly and tucked her own dark hair behind her ear.
“Why, what’s going on?”
Molly let out a little sigh of relief when Emily pressed her hand to her forehead. Her hand was cool to the touch, or at least cooler than her forehead. She wasn’t stupid. Molly always knew there was something just a little bit off with her relationship with her parents. Sometimes her dad just seemed disappointed in her, no matter how good she did in school, or sports, or if she even did her chores without being asked twice, but her parents never withheld affection from her. Sometimes that was the hardest part of not having them anymore. She was too busy soaking in the comfort that she almost missed Emily answering her.
“I don’t know,” Molly frowned, taking her time as she looked at Emily. The honest answer would have been that she was scared. But it didn’t 100% count as lying if she just held back the truth. She wanted to say she was scared, but that would have sounded really lame. She was going to be twelve soon, and that was practically thirteen, which would make her a teenager and freaking out had gotten her nowhere so far in life.
“I… it’s nothing I guess.” A little shrug came after. It wasn’t fitting for such a big fib, but Molly was a pretty good faker when she needed to be. Besides, she was tired, and her nerves were gradually calming now that someone was in the room with her again. Sometimes she’d fall asleep in the living room if Wanda was there. That was always easier. If she wasn’t, she’d just stay in her room with the lights off and play on her computer until she just couldn’t keep her head up anymore.
Trying to play it all off as nothing, and giving in to her tired eyes, Molly scooted a little bit more to lay down and put her head back on her pillow.
“After I eat, do you wanna play a videogame or something?”
Emily kept her eyes on Molly, watching her and no, there was something going on. Emily could feel it, and she was concerned. She didn’t know a lot about Molly, but she knew enough to know that she was a child and being here was scary enough. And that wasn’t even counting what Molly had been through before. None of this was fair for her.
“It’s nothing, or you don’t want to talk about it?” Emily raised her eyebrow. “If there’s something going on, you can tell me. You know that, right?” Emily felt that she was a pretty good listener. Okay, she was an amazing listener, but she wasn’t going to push Molly either. When Molly didn’t really say anything, Emily just nodded.
“Sure, we can play a video game after you’re done eating.” Emily stood up from the bed so Molly could get herself up. “I’ll go ahead and make you a bowl of sherbert, it’ll be right out here okay?” She offered Molly a smile before she left the room, but she was really worried that something was going on. To Emily, it could have been anything. What if Molly was having horrible dreams? What if there was another bad guy that was running around, killing people in their sleep. She needed to get Molly to talk. Emily looked toward the door to Molly’s room as she made her a bowl and when the door opened, she considered it a small victory because she was out of bed.
“Just in time.”
It was hard not to feel a little guilty or even silly for not telling Emily. Molly didn't exactly get embarrassed easy, but when it happened, it was bad. Thankfully, Emily didn't push. She was totally zapped for energy but she smiled big when Emily agreed to video games after she sherbert.
“Thanks, Em, you're the best.” Molly watched Emily stand and walk out the room. She had every intention of getting up, because heck yeah, sherbert, but she was so sleepy. She could close her eyes for just a few minutes. She was sure Emily wouldn't let the sherbert melt. The ache in her head was dull enough for Molly to close her eyes, and just like that, Molly fell into a comfortable sleep without even trying.
Not even a minute later, the door to her closet slowly opened. What lumbered out of it and walked past Molly’s bed left her undisturbed, and went straight for the door that lead to the rest of the suite. It was left cracked just enough for it to push it open and watch the girl in the kitchen portion of the room.
What was watching Emily with large glowing eyes from the shadow of Molly’s room was well over six feet tall. It was a solid, bulky, creature with hunched shoulders, standing on two legs. It could have resembled a giant bear, but there was something inherently wrong with it. It looked like a bear in the way a kid’s drawing of a bear looked like a bear. The The proportions were all wrong, almost human-like, but there was nothing human about how long the claws and tail were. It stood there, menacing, waiting to be seen, and the second Emily turned around, it let out a low, warbled growl that didn't belong to any animal. It waited one, two, three seconds before it lunged, arms outstretched as it rushed towards Emily.
Emily turned back around to put the sherbert away when she heard a growl. Frowning, she stopped, feeling the hairs on her arm stand on end. Was she just hearing things? She had to have been. Setting the cold treat on the counter, Emily turned around and her eyes went wide. No, that wasn't Molly who was 'just in time.' Instead it was some monster, he was tall, bulky and Emily's mind went blank. No, it couldn't just go blank. It couldn't. She was a hunter. She was training to be on. What would Dean do? No, that wasn't right either because Emily was a fighter but this - whatever that was ...
"Molly!?" She yelled out, hoping the other girls was okay. Emily hadn't heard anything coming from Molly's room before this and suddenly, when the monster lunged at her, Emily jumped out of the way and grabbed her purse. She pulled her gun out and clicked the safety off before she started shooting it. It whined, loud and still menacing but after a few seconds, it was still coming for her. So she shot at it again.
Only Karolina and Dean knew that she had a gun. It wasn't something that she told people. it was used for her protection when she wasn't with Karolina who could do something or with Dean. She needed something for herself and after taking classes like Dean had instructed her to, she finally got her permit to carry.
"Molly!"
The big monster came after her again and Emily scrambled, grabbing onto the sofa as she backed away toward Molly's room. Her phone started to ring and Emily knew she couldn't get it. But the monster was distracted because of the ringtone.
Thank God, Beyoncé.
’Say it real loud if you fly!’
Was that Beyonce? Did she hear a gunshot before Beyonce? Molly scrambled out of bed, and sure enough, she heard her name from the other side of her door. Her head was throbbing as she tried to remember when exactly she had fallen asleep, or if she was even awake at all. Maybe she was still having a nightmare or something, but Emily felt real when Molly reached out through the doorway and yanked Emily in with her considerable strength. The second she was in the clear, Molly slammed the door.
“Em!? What’s going o-OH MY GOD IS THAT A GUN!?” She squeaked, her eyes a wide. “Where did you get that?! Why do you have a gun?! Were you shooting something?! WHY are you shooting something? Wait, something’s out there isn’t it? What is it? Is it a vampire? I’ll kick it’s ass!”
Molly obviously wasn’t slowing down for anything, even if she almost sounded a little too delirious. She could feel something wet trickling out of her nose. Anyone with eyes could tell it was blood, but Molly just assumed it was a byproduct of whatever funk she had come down with, and sniffled loudly before she put a hand on the doorknob, eyes flickering pink.
“Just don’t accidentally shoot me, okay? I don’t know if I could bounce back from that.” Without giving Emily much of a say, Molly threw the door open and rushed out to fight.. Nothing. She didn’t see anything other than an askew coffee table, and Emily’s abandoned purse, still ringing with Beyonce. Blinking, Molly moved up to the tips of her toes to peer around.. She didn’t anything. All the doors were shut, and aside from the coffee table and purse, nothing really looked out of place. Scowling, Molly walked forward, looked behind the couch, the curtains.. Everything. What was Emily shooting at? Once it was becoming more and more obvious that there wasn’t a thread in the hotel suite, Molly turned around to look at Emily. Her nose was running again. She sniffed loudly, and dragged her back of her hand underneath her nose.
“What happened? Did it… get away or something? What was it?”
Emily didn’t have time to answer her questions. Besides, Emily was here to take care of her, not the other way around. She was a child - Emily didn’t care what kind of super strength she possessed. “Molly, you’re bleeding, you shouldn’t -” But she did anyway. She went out there and she left the room. “Molly!” Emily followed her out to the living room but wasn’t met with a gigantic monster. Nope, there was … nothing.
“No, it was just here. It was loud! You didn’t hear it?” She asked, walking over to the window she could look outside. Maybe it was there? But she saw no sight of the monster. It was gone. Vanished.
“It was huge. It was a monster - not a vampire or a werewolf. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain,” Emily told her and walked to the kitchen, grabbing a paper towel so Molly could control the nosebleed. “It was tall, bulky and kind of looked like a bear, but there was something about it ... the eyes. They were glowing,” she explained.
“And we need to get the hell out of here. Something doesn’t feel right.”
Molly looked up at Emily with her big green eyes and shook her head in response. She sort of heard gunshots, then Beyonce, it was all kind of murky, but she didn’t hear anything else. Her brow furrowed in confusion when Emily got a paper towel and handed it to her, but when she pressed it to her nose and lifted, she saw blood.
Oh. Ew.
Without another look or word, she pressed the paper towel back to her nose as Emily explained what she had seen. Naturally, she believed her. It wasn’t that Molly was too trusting. Emily was a friend, and they were in Salem for crying out loud. Just because Molly hadn’t seen it didn’t mean it wasn’t real. Emily wouldn’t have whipped out a gun and started shooting if that was true, right? If Molly hadn’t believed Emily before, she would have when she heard a noise. She couldn’t quite figure out what it was at first, but the longer she listened, it was definitely a growl, and it was definitely coming from her bedroom. She didn’t panic, but she didn’t move either. She just stood there, eyes a little wide again, staring at the bedroom door.
Emily’s eyes went wide as she looked toward the bedroom door. Her arm automatically went around Molly, pulling her back to her chest, protecting her. Because throughout all of this, that’s all Emily wanted. Was to make sure that Molly was okay. Karolina would never forgive her and Emily would never forgive herself if something happened. “We need to go.” There was a scratching at the door and Emily stepped back, taking Molly with her. Emily didn’t need to hear another growl, she didn’t need to hear anything else. She just needed to run. “I can’t kill it, my bullets didn’t work.” Suddenly, the door was pushed again once and then twice before it came down and the monster, the huge, bear thing was in view.
“Molly!” Emily didn’t wait any longer and she grabbed Molly’s arm and pulled her along as the monster chased them. This wasn’t good. Emily was panicking and she shouldn’t have panicked. She should have known what to do. They got around a corner and Emily reached out, pressing the elevator button before pulling them both back against the wall. “It’s going to be okay. I’ll think of something.” But what? What was she going to think of? Emily pulled a knife from its holster on her hip. She kept it with her and her hand closed around the handle, waiting for the monster to turn the corner so she could stab it. But the longer they stood there, the slower the elevator became, she looked up at the sign that said ‘In case of emergency, use stairs.’ That seemed like a good plan right about now.
Molly had a million questions, and only a handful of them were ones that Emily could maybe answer. For some reason, there wasn’t any urgency. Molly thought that maybe she should be panicking more, but she wasn’t, and when Emily looked towards the stairs, Molly didn’t even need to be told what to do. She grabbed Emily’s hand and ran.
They took the stairs as quickly as they could. Not a second after the emergency door closed behind them, it swung open again, so Molly let go of Emily’s hand so they could both try taking two stairs at a time.
“Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap!” Molly whirled, taking on the next set of stairs. She had never been more angry about living on the 5th floor until then. Once they made it down, Molly didn’t exit the building. Running into the dark parking lot seemed like a perfect place to get eaten, and Molly wasn’t about to do that. When they both ducked into the lobby, it was a little bit more crowded than usual. Molly immediately felt safer in comparison, even if it might not have made much sense. She turned around, facing the emergency exit, half expecting the monster that she never even got a good look at to come barrelling out after them, but it never happened.
Almost a full minute passed before Molly hunched forward, and rested her hands on her knees. She had dropped the paper towel before they had even started taking the stairs. Crap, she was tired. Really tired. After catching her breath, Molly looked up to Emily. “I don’t think it’s coming,” she sighed in relief, but it didn’t exactly last. “If it was out in the living room with you, how did it get in my room like that?”
Emily crouched down next to her and they probably both looked really out of place right now. She kept her eyes toward the lobby hall, waiting for it to come out from behind the door, but nothing happened. It didn’t go after them. Was it going after someone else? Emily felt that she needed to check. Of course she did. She wanted to keep people safe. It was just in her nature now. “I don’t know, I don’t know much of anything,” Emily admitted, looking at Molly. “What was that?” She didn’t expect Molly to know, but she knew she was going to ask Dean and Sam about it. She was going to have to tell Karolina about this too. She stood up, bringing Molly with her. “Are you alright?” She looked her over, checking to make sure she was okay. She looked tired and still sick obviously. She needed to lay down, but Emily needed to figure out what this was.
“I’m going to take you to my room, you can lay down there.” She needed to call Karolina and Dean and go from there. Molly wasn’t going back to her room anytime soon.
