Who: Ali and Jason
What: Sibling confrontation
When: Bendy time
Where: Jason's apartment
Some had hypothosized over the years that Alison DiLaurentis was a sociopath. It wasn't true. She knew right from wrong, but didn't care. However, she did feel empathy towards others. Even now when it was so tempting to try and find a way to keep Emily, she was letting her go and be happy with her hippie teen girlfriend. It was at least better than Pigskin Paige. She loved her friends, even if they didn't always feel that from her because she was so busy trying to manipulate and control them.
It was different with Jason. He was the only real family member that she had left now that Charlotte had disappeared. Charlotte was supposed to be Ali's second shot at having a real family. Her parents were crazy. Her mother had once buried her alive and taught Alison every ugly trick she ever learned. Her father was a close minded asshole who couldn't see past his own nose. Ali suffered under her parents and Jason did too. She tried to remember that Jason had an even worse time of it because his father wasn't even Kenneth DiLarentis. No. It was so much worse than that. Jason was half DiLaurentis, half Hastings. It was the worst of combinations and if Ali found out she was related to the Hastings', she might have a drinking problem too.
Instead of bonding over the abuse they survived together, it always seemed to push Ali and Jason further away from each other. They were never on the same page and they never coped with things the same way. Jason preferred the metaphorical escapism. He stalked and filmed others to live vicariously through them. Then there was the physical escapism that included an exciting array of drugs and alcohol. Ali resented Jason for being so absent all those years when she needed someone but he was just trying to survive too. She was secretly proud of him when he got sober but even sober Jason wanted little to do with his crazy family, including Alison.
So on they went with their lives, completely separate, as if they weren't brother and sister at all. Ali accepted Jason's absence and resented him for it, all at the same time. She was certain he resented her for a hundred thousand things, up to and including faking her own death and going on the run for years. As if she ever had a choice. Maybe if he weren't such a drugged up loser, she would have gone to her big brother for help.
That didn't mean that Ali didn't care about her absentee brother. When Spencer approached Alison with her concerns about Jason's drinking and his new girlfriend, Ali took them seriously. If nothing else, Alison wanted control and that was perhaps the real reason why her brother was so neglectful. Being Ali's puppet was generally a bad experience for everyone.
Everything Spencer said checked out from what Alison could see on the network. A couple of days of following Cady around as "Vivan Darkbloom" had proven interesting. A confrontation in the lobby, plants dying, glass breaking. It was all very suspicious. And unacceptable. This girl was going to destroy Jason and Ali had to do something about it.
She knocked on Jason's door and when he opened it, she let herself in. She looked around a little bit. She hadn't been by in awhile and the place smelled a little bit like stale laundry. Ali turned to face her brother.
"Spencer told me everything," she said. Why beat around the bush?
