Molly sighed softly, gaze lowered to the school book open in front of her even though she'd yet to read a single word of it. She could sense her teacher, Mrs. Redmond, at the front of the classroom. The last Molly had checked she'd been grading papers, and had told her to focus on her studies. She had almost added 'until your parents get here' but had stopped herself. Which, Molly decided as she idly turned the page in her book, was a shame. She really would have liked to have replied that they were going to be sitting there for a very long time if they were waiting for her actual parents to show up.
Yes, she knew to say such a thing likely would have gotten her in even more trouble, but she couldn't help it. The teacher had seemed nice enough, when Molly had first started school, but after this latest assignment the girl simply had very little respect left for the woman. She just couldn't respect someone dumb enough to make kids write letters to dead loved ones. It was such a strange, intrusive thing to ask.
Of course, the fact that Molly felt that way and had instead opted to voice her opinion through one of the letters rather than by outright refusing to do the assignment (as, come to find out, a handful of her fellow students had done) was partially why she was sitting here , waiting on Matt and Mohinder to show up. The teacher was concerned. Or so she claimed. Personally, Molly just thought she was mad that she'd had to read a letter where one of her students had all but called her an idiot.
Either way though, she was now forced to sit and wait. Yet even already in proverbial hot water, she couldn't seem to help from glancing up from her textbook every few sentences to the woman who had started all of this. After the third or fourth time, she managed to catch her teacher's gaze.
"Did you speak to them or leave a message? Because they're both very busy. They might not come for a while," she offered by way of explanation.
Elizabeth Redmond simply offered the girl a small, thin sort of smile and returned her attention to the paperwork in front of her. "I'm sure they'll be here shortly, Molly," she assured her. There was a hint of uncertainty in her tone, however, as she idly found herself wondering if perhaps a lack of active interest in the girl's homelife was part of the reason that she had decided to deliberately sabotage what could have been a very fulfilling assignment.
At the sound of her classroom door opening, she realized she was about to find out just how invested in Molly her guardians happened to be. With a friendly smile, she watched the two men enter and rose to her feet as they did so.
"Thank you for coming," she greeted them politely. "I'm Elizabeth Redmond, Molly's teacher. I do apologize for this. I would have scheduled an appointment at another time, but I felt this was a matter best discussed sooner rather than later."
