Perhaps Mira had been right. Perhaps nothing good ever came of following his father's research. Perhaps it was time to stop listening to these voices, as she called them, and appreciate the life he had. He couldn't exactly say that he loved Mira, but she was a good woman and they could have a good life together with Molly. But there was no way to do that now. He had nearly died, and now he was four months in the future. Four months, and the world had changed completely. Peter had explained a little, a zombie outbreak...the sort one only expected to see in films...had destroyed a sizeable portion of the world's population and he was in a Safe Zone in New York City. It was somewhat hard to fathom, that such a thing could happen so quickly, but the evidence was right in front of his eyes.
Peter had put given him a shirt and jacket that weren't torn and stained with blood, put him in a cab and told him where to find Matthew and Molly. Of course, Molly might not be home from school just yet, but Matthew would be there. And there was some humour in the knowledge that, even in such a time as this, there were still taxi cabs running. Life went on, in spite of fear and tragedy. Such was the human race...and it was that fact that made them such marvellous creatures to study. They endured, whatever was thrown at them, and they carried on.
He made his way up the stairs to the fourth floor and paused in front of apartment 404c. Perhaps it would be better to just find his own place to stay, and not intrude upon the life he was certain Matthew and Molly were settling into. But he could hardly just leave and not say anything to Molly. The girl was practically his daughter, in his mind and...he liked to think, hers. After a moment's indecision, he raised a hand and knocked.
